“The Gun”

Went to the range this afternoon and took four handguns - Gen 2 Archon, comped PDP, my recently acquired VP9F and my old school two-tone VP9. I needed to zero an optic on the PDP and I’m trying to get rounds through the Archon which is new, but I really wanted to compare the “new and improved” VP9F and the VP9. As a lot of you know I have a strong attachment to the VP9, which always has felt just right. I haven’t shot the VP9 much since I got the F and was starting to feel like the old goodness was yesterdays news.

I sent out a target with 4 of the splatterburst targets I like and stepped up with the F and took 5 shots from ten yards, which looked like this. I thought - well crap, it looks like the new goodness is indeed the new goodness

I then stepped up with the “old school” VP9 with the MCarbo trigger job, put the target back to 12.5 and let fly with five rounds - which looked like this.

and to be honest with you I kind of had an Ah-Ha moment. I realized that of all of my guns - my Archons which I love to death, my 226 X5 STAS which is like a 48oz cheat code, my Staccato C2, the Walthers PPQ, P99 and PDP, all the Legions - my two-tone $700 VP9 OR is The Gun. It has resonated with me since I first bought it and has consistently gone blow-for-blow with the rest of my collection. Am I suddenly going to sell off my collection or stop eyeballing the Laugo Alien Creator or the TTI Sand Viper? No, but if I did guess what? This was kind of an epiphany, like maybe I’ve been chasing something that was right under my nose the whole time.

So what about you guys and gals? Do you have The Gun?

P7.

Dot, period, end of story.
I have two P7s, a P7M8 and an older heel mag catch model. I could always shoot them better than anything. I might not touch either for a year, take one out, and shoot better than the gun I’d been carrying and shooting all that time.

I was shooting a lot of IDPA in the 2000s-2010s and would try to shoot at least one match a year with the M8. It was almost always my best match of the year.

I just got so nervous about breaking something I couldn’t get a replacement of that I semi-retired them.

I still carry my P7M8, but…rarely.

I don’t know how many times I’ve double-tapped with it, and the two holes could be covered with a quarter…

My 92 year old Uncle carries the Chiefs Special, IWB, he was chief of detectives at the Sherriff's Dept.

I'm having a problem packing a full magazine, past 10 or 12 rounds, I guess the answer is to carry spare mags for more ammo.
If it's because the mags are new, they'll break in. My mags that came with the Shield Plus were terrible at first, but 500 rds later they're just fine.

But if it's because of arthritis or something, you should definitely invest in a loader like this: https://www.amazon.com/IJW-Loaders-Magazine-Select-Correct/dp/B0CDKG7QNB/

They can make a world of difference.
