The path to victory in the War for Independence gave rise to historian Dudley Knox’s observation that “the American Revolution is revealed as much more of a naval than a military war.”

France incurred significant debt during its involvement in the American Revolution, and this financial strain contributed to the later French Revolution (1789-1799). There's probably a lesson here somewhere that could apply to modern day circumstances. Might be one of those “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” moments happening as we speak.
