A good friend of mine works for Norma. Hard to get handguns in Sweden. So after jumping thru all the hoops to get a handgun, his choice? Ruger Redhawk in .357 Magnum. This was before the Super Redhawk. But his choice of a strong handgun that will likely go the distance for his lifetime...a Redhawk.

I can testify to the strength of Ruger magnums. I had a Sp101 that ate more heavy. 357 magnums thsn my hand could take and just said please sir may I have more.

Then I had a .44 Redhawk which I customized by having the barrel cut to 4.5 inches, magna-ported, action job, inverted crown, recut forcing cone and others. I put the heaviest Buffalo Bores thru it along with a lot of handloads that were frankly probably ill advised. I used smooth ivory grips on it in part that they were much more comfortable than the gripping of rubber pulling at the palm. Plus they just looked sweet.

The super Redhawk is even more of a tank, my arthritic hand weeps at what thry can probably digest.

All the metal Ruger are overbuilt tanks. They’re a chunk to tote, but dang they can take a beating!

My Ruger super Redhawk was a huge disappointment for my kids after the Super Blackhawk that was traded in for the Ruger Super Redhawk. They wanted me to go back and get the SBH back. They didn't like the fact that it had no recoil. I've shot some hot handloads and it shoots like shoots like a 357 shooting 38's and it wears the older Ruger rubber and wood grips.
The SBH wore big squishy Hogue grips.
I love it!!

had redhawks and super redhawks - both are fine revolvers. Couple of points on the article - the redhawk in .44 mag doesn't have a strong recoil, at least not for me but perhaps for Kat the author. She says "Is there a lot of recoil? Yes. Do you want to spend long live fire sessions with it? No, not really." Nonsense - both types are fine for an afternoon of shooting, provided you can handle it. There is some stout recoil in the .454 casull super redhawk but then, one should expect that, and, one can carry either in a 5" bbl for self defense.

I always preferred the Super Blackhawk.

Bought a "Super Blackhawk" at work sight unseen. Turned out to be a Super RedHawk. Nice gun but when another officer offered to swap it for one of his Super Blackhawks, I jumped all over it. Never regretted that decision.

I like a double action 44, but to be honest - the single action, to me, really shines when you step up into the 45 Colt and beyond.

This was pre good red dot days. I bought it used at pawn shop. The previous owner had removed the sights and put a picatinny rail on it. The Burris scope sucked, it was accurate for one shot, after that it was large barn accurate. I had put a couple of cheap ATN open dots on it and it ate them for lunch. It would literally knock the dot coatings off so the light projecting onto the glass became a HUGE sea of red that totally obscured the glass. A call to Ruger with the serial number confirmed that they no longer had the stock sight in stock, it had changed and was not compatible with my Super Blackhawk. Traded it even up for a used Super Redhawk with the factory ring set was a no brainer AND it had iron sights I wanted a Super Redhawk for a long time for the double action and much stronger build.
