The Old New York Reload

Revolvers are slow to reload compared to autos, especially when talking about snubbies. Drawing a second loaded revolver is much faster than reloading, and experienced gunfighters such as those on the old NYPD Stakeout Units of the 1970s often carried a pair of revolvers. Hence the “New York Reload.”

Galco recently debuted a Masterbilt Dual Defense Rig for those cosplayers looking for leather to pull off a NYR.

I am old enough I used a revolver as my first duty gun. My first municipal agency most guys ran theor backup snub IWB behind the speedloader pouch so they could go to it or a speedloader. Or a few had ankle rigs. This was wjem the FBI relod was popular so everyone had theor speedloader pouch in the strong side. Whem the autos took over guys moved the gun to theor offside behind the mag pouch and got good with non dominant hand only.

I only know of one guy that had to go to his backup. As we were drilled into our heads if we didn’t get it done in 6 we were dead.

Funny thing though they drilled that in our heads there was always a stash of extra speedloaders in the door pockets “just in case”LOL

Those were rest times and sometimes I wish I could go back!

Careful, before you know it, we’ll see “capacity is king” folks carrying double 19+1 loaded autos in such a manner!

Seriously though, this makes perfect sense, especially if one was proficient with their weak hand skills.

Yeah I hear the folks that make the arguments they make for have to have a high cap or won’t live through the night and it shows they haven’t been around how real crime goes down

And yet they won’t carry OC or a flashlight which are what. They will use before a 17 round spare magazine
