Several of my family have worked as servers. I met my wife when she was a waitress almost 50 years ago, and the service was fabulous! (I think she liked the uniform and my gun, in addition to my movie star looks and sparkling personality).
My attitude about tips is old fashioned. If I have to stand up to order as a general rule I am not tipping. If table service is fair, my tip is 15%. If the service is great, so is my tip. I usually leave cash for the server. If the service is poor, i am not tipping, you need to up your game. If the restaurant automatically adds a tip, I am never coming back.
