True, but impulse takes over.
Reloading forces me to slow myself down and enjoy some time there

Not quicker in making noise , quicker in making ( reasonably accurate ) First Hit .

Shrug . With my formative shooting years being during the Revolver Era ( and single shot rifle before that ) , l never developed an Impulse to Mag Dump . My default urge is to hit .
( Initial shooting experiences at 12oz cans , rather than life size paper , might factor also . )

I understand what you're saying . But the semantics are where the other 80 % of shooters are pushing back against us .
Not * slow * in the absolute sense . Still reasonably rapid . Think interms of 10% or 15% backed off from " as fast as you can pull the trigger " .

My shooting is just fine sir. My default is to hit. I dont miss. I train a lot and have for a very long time. I get bored so speed takes over. I can hit precisely what I aim for. You do you and I’ll do me. I usually use a 3” target and shoot moving animals in the dark with thermals. Accuracy is not an issue. Boredom is

i mean, take the time, whether its a split second or a whole.. time is irrelevant
time to get the sight picture, time to breathe and time to squeeze, then time to adjust and repeat
all of which could take place in an instant or slow motion
the key is not to half *** point and shoot, as a miss does not help in the long run,
and YES at the time of crisis, we tend to hurry, thats why we train to sight, breathe and squeeze. the breathe does not require actually exhale or in hale, just a pause of sorts, although a breath does help to sort the nerves
like i said, i am retired so the chance of a fire fight or slinging a 50 from a flying machine are very very very slim
i pray i never have to take a life in defense of mine or my orbit of people
but odds now days are getting higher in favor of such an event occurring,
so we do range days as
sight, breathe and squeeze, 5 at a time and focus our brains on the target, as if our life depended on being accurate
i can tell you the police class was LIFE changing even though the bullets coming at you were computer generated, it was dreadfully scary as your suit and pistol reacted as if you got shot.
that was 20 some years ago, i can only imagine the advancement in training now

While I get a 6 stage with 28-32rounds per stage at a USPSA match
Running half second splits to that .17 splits is gonna add up to a lot on the street .50 splits wins as LAPD SWAT and otherwise has proven they hit bad guys where they need to and don’t generally mag dump. And as a whole (non SWAT) LAPD has around a 70 plus % hit rate compared to 20% average of the rest of the country
Force science has even proven the fastest anyone can assess is .38 with the average around .45-.50
But to hear the go fast crowd tell it!
