There are cartridges that are faster than the .30-30 Winchester. There are cartridges that shoot flatter, hit harder, handle wind better, and look considerably more impressive on a ballistic calculator. None of that has managed to kill the .30-30.
Through all of its life, somebody has continued climbing into a tree stand with an old lever gun and a handful of .30-30 cartridges.

Great cartridge for the south eastern US.

Killed my first deer with a 336 Marlin almost 40 years ago.

I would not hesitate to go forth and kill stuff east of the Mississippi with one.

I used the cartridge for years in handgun silhouette with fantastic results from the Contender! Easy MOA groups and ram slamming abilities at 200 meters. I had many 40s shooting unlimited, and a couple more half-size for good measure. Used 147 BT from Mil surp cause dey was cheap!

Great cartridge and handgun combo!
