There was a knock at the door....

I went to Florida in the early 90s for work. I noticed all of the swimming pools had what looked like wrought iron cages over them. I asked my partner that was local to the area why people didn't just put fences around their back yards to keep people out of the pools. He told me they were to keep the gators out, not people. 😲

Nuisance Gator calls were always interesting at the PD. Back in my day there was mandatory training in the academy on how to catch a gator. You couldn't shoot them because they were protected. We hired a lot of experienced officers with out of state academy training from other states who attended an abbreviated academy in Florida. I was amused by reactions I got when I told them they needed to attend 2 weeks Florida law, 2 weeks firearms and use of force, pursuit driving, and alligator catching to get certified. Some of them thought I was kidding until the game warden showed up at the academy with a live gator in his pickup.

One of our most watched shows is livepd and there have been countless gator calls on it in Florida.
