My family is watching through the Waltons tv series. WW2 is going on, hasn't hit the US yet, but gas is starting to be rationed. Jim Bob, the youngest son, figured out how to make 190 proof alcohol and run thier cars on it
He tries to market it to the government. They write back and say they consulted with 2 big oil companies who said it wasn't possible.
Apparently, they understood conspiracy theories in the 70s, too

Never underestimate greed.
Its long been rumored that a cure for cancer was found years ago. The drug companies have suppressed it because there's more money in treating it than curing it. True or not? IDK?
