Nearly 32 years have passed since Master Sgt. Gary I. Gordon handed a rifle and remaining rounds of ammunition to Black Hawk pilot Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael Durant at the helicopter’s wreckage site, said, “Good luck,” and waded into a sea of swarming Somali enemies with only a pistol in hand.

In an event last month, hosted by U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon Commanding General Maj. Gen. Ryan Janovic, the Army remembered Gordon’s sacrifice with the renaming of Fort Eisenhower back to Fort Gordon.

I'm of two minds about this. It's great that we honor Master Sgt. Gary I. Gordon. On the other hand, it is kind of a halfhearted attempt to tell those that would those that would tear down everything traditional in this country to go pee (edited evidently you can't say pi** ???) up a rope. It also reeks of sneaky, underhanded, word play. The master Sgt. deserves better.

The Master Sergeant deserves MUCH better, As does General Gordon. It seriously torques me off that people who actually lived through the War Between the States, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were fine with the old names. Then idiots born 125+ years later (many of whom didn’t even have any relatives on this continent ant the time) are suddenly “offended”😡 by history. Sorry history IS history. Whether you happen to like it or NOT. Changing “history” to suit a political agenda is pure BS.

In Virginia we lost Fort Lee, Fort A.P.Hill, and Camp Pickett. I refuse to refer to them by any other name. Fort Lee's name was changed to Fort Gregg-Adams; however, it has been renamed Fort Lee. This Fort Lee is not named after the Confederate Civil War general, but after Buffalo Soldier, Private Fitz Lee, a Spanish-American War veteran who, under enemy fire, rescued wounded soldiers in Cuba, earning him the Medal of Honor. I was sorry the Desmond Doss was never considered despite being a native Virginian.
