The term "gun control" needs to disappear from all discussions relating to firearms in general, and the second amendment in particular. What those who push this agenda want is confiscation and restriction. We need to make certain this is made clear during any debate on the subject.
Some will argue that there is an implicit consensus for the meaning of the term. I vehemently disagree. It's presumed that the average person is informed enough to understand what the debate is about without clarification being needed. Do we really believe that a large proportion of the population is truly informed about much of anything political?
Let's start by eliminating "control". This term carries a perception of reasonable responsibility. One is expected to be in control of their emotions during times of stress. Being in control of a motor vehicle while operating it is a requirement of law and common sense. This leads people to believe that "gun control" is both reasonable and a result of common sense actions.
Whenever someone wishes to discuss "gun control", we need to stop them and ask them to define terms. We especially can't allow the phrase "common sense gun control" to be used. Remember that many of these people have views that defy thought that passes for common sense (e.g. men can get pregnant).
Before the debate is allowed to continue, we have a duty to make certain that the listener understands that the proponents favor both restriction and confiscation of guns. This will allow us to present an argument that gives us a far better frame of reference.
Thanks for reading. I would like to see this become something we can unify behind and get out to the 2A community in general.
Figured this is the best place to start given that the members of this forum are generally more mature than some of the others.
So with that compliment we can expect the minions and HiPoint references begin
