To Jacob Grey or not....

Wondering if you esteemed folks could provide some guidance. Looking to add to my current collection (P320 and 1911 Marine Comp .45) and have heard lots about these higher end 9mm pistols. The Jacob Grey TWC9 looks like a fun gun for the range and possibly carry but wanted to get feedback as am unsure if the money for the upgrade equals the enjoyment obtained. Are there other custom brands that you might suggest? Any feedback is really appreciated and please forgive if I made any typos or errors of description, I am a bit new to the whole thread posting....

Hi and welcome from NC 👋

I’ve been looking to get into the 2011/DS 1911 pool. I’ve shot Stacatto’s and they feel great in the hand and slide moves like it’s on bearings. I heard that’s kindof the hallmark of that style though. I’ve held a TTI pit viper and it’s a very impressive firearm but at 7500 it makes my head hurt a bit. Recently turned on to a smaller startup-ish brand cardinal arms which is based in my area. It’s a 2011 but no back safety which appeals to some. The SA prodigy is a great shooting pistol as well similar to above statements on staccato, but at a more budget friendly price.

as I’m sure you have a good bet is to see what’s available at local range for rent and see if any demo days (that’s how I shot some of the above). Good luck on journey and let us know how it goes.

I haven’t shot a Jacob Grey firearm, but I have shot a lot of 2011s and there are many in the $1500 to $2500 range. It really depends on whether you are looking more traditional looking 1911DS or 2011 Race Gun. I have had my eye on the Kimber 2K11, which is a really attractive gun and gets great reviews, as does the Jacob Grey lineup.

It’s a bit like the Wild West, but there is a pretty vibrant 2011 sub-Reddit where you will get a lot of thoughts and opinions on the entire range of 2011s from the cheapest to Space Program budget guns

Can you get the Prodigy with iron sights?
I don’t think they (Prodigy) come with “just” iron sights, but all have iron sights. You don’t have to take optic plate off. I bought an Emissary .45 AOS with intent of using optic, even bought the optic. So accurate (for me) with just the irons, optic still sitting in box 😂.

If you look around, you can find some pretty good deals on the SA Prodigy DS. Just came across this while looking for a non-optic cut version (and again, seems that’s not an option). And if you look at wikiarms.com you can find some used ones around $1.1k. Usually at Bass Pro, Cabela’s, etc.
