Truck Guns

OK this one is maybe gonna upset some of you guys

Call'em Truck Guns or Trunk Guns or maybe the Bag Gun if you like; but the concept is the long gun in your vehicle or certainly not under your shirt. I USED to think this was a great idea. I had a AK underfolder that fit in one of the folding chair bags that were popular 20 years ago. I have a AR that will fit (broken down) in a tool box and a AR that I carry in a guitar case. I have a safe bolted into my Jeep that will hold a AR or AK and I have a few SMGs, SBRs and Braced Pistols that I have carried in lap top bags.

I truly like all of them and Id fight with them but I dont think they make a good Trunk Gun for emergencies. Sure maybe a dying deer on the side of the road OR a moose with its head through a windshield but NOT an Active Shooter. Guys with rifles, especially ARs or even worse AKs, and even Lever Actions as BAD GUYS, sorry but unless I know you and you recognize me as a Good Guy, running around with a long gun at an active shooting scene in street clothes makes you look like another THREAT. This includes picking up the Bad Guys gun to go after the other Bad Guys.

An Active Shooter incident is confusing enough for cops, who, trust me wont have all the info, and were too hyped up to process what was put out AND much of what was put out was contradictory; so when they see a guy who doesnt look like a cop with a rifle hes a THREAT. Maybe if you live in Mayberry and buy Aunt Bee's apple pies at every church event, Sheriff Andy might recognize you; but what about Goober's cousin thats filling in for Barney--WILL He realize you arent another Bad Guy?

Sooo you say we just had a guy up north shooting cars on the road... a civilian with a rifle helped the Officer on the scene take out the Bad Guy. Well, Id say, we dont know all those facts. What we DO know is that the civilian had to go back to his car to get his rifle. Im gonna make a guess that he had some contact with the officer BEFORE getting the gun OR at least before approaching the officer, maybe he called out and announced himself as a Good Guy

As much as I like cool guns, my Car Gun is a Duty Size pistol that I can make head shots with at 15+ yards and body shots out to at least 50 yards. A pistol wont be immediately scene, especially if I carry it low, maybe behind my hip UNTIL its time to engage. If Im scene by cops, a handgun isnt immediately seen as the crazy guy with the rifle, sure you could still be seen as a threat but thats only if they see the gun. This means no pocket guns. If you insist on only carrying "comfortable" guns maybe just stay out of the way.

If you get there before the Police and are actively hunting the Bad Guy, (I hope you have made some attempt to contact 911); but unless you are actually shooting, consider keeping the gun at low ready against your stomach/chest with your support hand covering the gun. A good cop will likely recognize this as a trained shooter, and an average cop might not even see the gun; giving you a half second to say "Im a Good Guy" and "the shooter is over there". They may still put you on the ground and seize your weapon until they can establish you arent the Bad Guy; but being the guy with the tricked out AR probably wont be as lucky.

Put yourself in the cops shoes. What does he see when he sees you? Do you look like a Bad Guy?

OR heres another thought, IF you see a crazy guy in the road with a rifle shooting at cars...consider the stopping power of your handgun VS the stopping power of your 3000 LB truck. Hit him at 40MPH and see who walks away when he becomes a stain on your bumper.

Yep your airbag will deploy and you bumper will be damaged; but rush out and get a selfie to show your buddies, its better than that fishing picture your buddy always pulls out Tell him fishing is silly and McDonalds puts cheese on it BUT you just turned a terrorist into road grease and have the pics to prove it

I am not a cop so i ain't runnin to an active shooter, now if i am accidentally in the range of one then what's wrong with puttin a knarly head wound on one from 3 to 500 yards away to end it all.
Well nothing and Im right there with you BUT if you are "hunting him where the PD can see you, your rifle will likely make you look like a Bad Guy sniper

...and not to bring up another sore topic but how you look will also depend on how you look

I think of Truck Guns differently. Truck guns are for impromptu hunting. Maybe wack a yote, pop a partridge, drop a deer, roll a rabbit, ground swat a grouse, mash a moose......... ;) A single 20 dose that for me. Oh it can be used for S/D but I would rather una** the A.O.

Different parts of ,and conditions in, the US drive what an appropriate "Truck gun" may be.
Yep I guess it is a location dependent term

Unless you're in your 'Sunday go to meeting" clothes, you best stay in the truck. Let the law handle it, unless you can slip into your tux real quick!
Hahahaha Yep I knew someone would bring it up

For you guys who insist on bringing a rifle, maybe at least look like youre a cop and use a rifle that cops use. If youre 350lbs and bringing you Daewoo rifle wearing surplus WW2 gear, because the guy at the shop told you it was better than a AR, maybe not a good idea; but its up to you
