Do you guys get these notices? i get them almost every week by mail wanting me to reflash my 2015 Ram diesel. been getting them for a long time. always telling me what it will do for the truck. trucks runs fine now. they even offer some small incentives for me to do it. is the government pressuring these guys to do this? sometimes i get two a week, some are postcards and some several pages of a letter.

Even got one that was kinda threatening in a small way. Truck runs fine and get decent mileage, especially with 35 inch tires and rims. i am NOT letting them screw up my truck. they and the EPA can buzz off.

Sounds kinda scammy. Beware of pressuring emails and snail mail.

just like your home computer, or smart phone, or even your internet modem or smart tv, there are updates to the software that runs the systems.

you could call the dealership and get someone to help sometime before the next century, or you can go in person with the letter for confirmation. they may even hand you the list of software updates.

sometimes its a tiny update, for what ever computer in the vehicle needss it, or several small updates, or one HUGE update.

most times, after you show up for your programming (flash) updates, its maybe all of 1 hour or less.

of course too......your truck is running good now........as you say

but, will it stay that way forever..???

you also NEED to ask what is the cost, and what is the guarantee it'll work.......and what they will do if the whole shebang goes "kahphooey."

In my experience I would check in to it rather than wait until the vehicle starts running stodgy. I had to take two of mine in over the years to get reflashed. This goes back to the 2008 time frame and later. Another thing is vehicles remember your driving habits and if you do a lot of stop and go driving the car's performance on the open road can suffer. A trick I learned is to pull the power control module fuse, wait about 30 seconds and put it back in. This resets your driving "history" and should give you more pep. I would routinely do this on some of my vehicles.

the independent repair shops, may, or may not have the updates. the updates are usually proprietary using the manufacturers scan tool, not a generic one.

up to you, but to inquire in person, i'd at least recommend that.

beside the "small incentives", can be a lounge chair with a warm massaging vibrator, hot towel, pedicure, manicure, and a back waxing job.

man, i can go for a back waxing right now myself.

IMO if it ain't broke it might be if the mechanics are incompetent with Chrysler computer systems, Don't do it!!!!!

from my days as a mechanic, working in mostly GM dealerships, most times back then, only the shop foreman would do computer diagnostics, as he'd be the only mechanic with the most experience, and knowledge.

of course, with hard to find "good workers", those days may have fully gone away.

It's legit. It's an emissions recall. But a lot of people have had issues with it. I don't bother with it because I deleted my emissions junk, so I don't have any problems. Best thing I ever did for my 2020 Cummins was to do the delete on the emissions.

yeah, my state has yearly emissions testing/inspections for trucks, and 2 year inspections/emissions testing for cars

gotta get it done here
