A Sea Change in more ways than the obvious one...

USS Newport News' visit to Reykjavík is yet another sign of the Cold War-like strategic shift for the island nation.

A good read that relates to Iceland...

Red Storm Rising was an out of Jack Ryan universe story but well worth the read rather than Hackett's The Third World War. Clancy sure nailed the importance of Iceland.
Yes, I agree.

I've read both, and while we grew up in the Cold War at least the old Soviet premiers remembered the horrors of WW2.

The current KGB mad-man doesn't.

Aside from his bluster, POTUS 47 needs to arrange a COFA with Denmark/Greenland which would be beneficial to all three countries vs. pushing a US ownership of the island sub-continent.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking!

I’ve flown through Iceland several times, and laid over for a day or two a few times.

The old NATO airbase at Keflavik is the new international airport; stayed in Keflavik…pretty little town.

That’s one of the remaining hangars in the distance.

Comfortable Shoes and Port Calls

Faxaflóahafnir operates Grundartangi as an industrial port some 45 minutes north of Reykjavik by car, while the nearest town, Hvalfjarðarsveit, has a population of about 600.

While it seems like such a small deal, it is big for Iceland, which has notoriously been hands-off when it comes to warships, even those of NATO allies, calling in the country’s ports.

Those are some comfortable-looking shoes
