Here's the latest

US and Israel strike: The US and Israel have attacked Iran, with President Donald Trump indicating the “massive and ongoing” military operation is aimed at overturning the government in Tehran. The attack included strikes on the Iranian supreme leader’s compound and killed several senior figures, according to an Israeli military official, though details remain limited.

Massive retaliation: Iran launched an unprecedented wave of strikes at US military bases, Israel and targets in other countries across the Middle East, disrupting air travel and oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. An Iranian drone struck a high-end, densely populated neighborhood in Dubai.

Global reaction: The United Arab Emirates called the conflict a “historic moment” in the Middle East, saying world leaders had failed to ensure the region’s stability. The leaders of some US allies expressed concern, while some Arab nations condemned Iran’s retaliation.

Images from the capital show smoke plumes rising in urban areas. In addition, we have seen video from Iraq showing what appear to be low flying cruise missiles or possibly fighter aircraft. Iraq has been the primary access point for the Israeli Air Force in past strikes on Iran.

UPDATE: 1:36 PM EST—

The Israeli Air Force says that 200 fighters took part in the initial wave of strikes on Iran this morning, and that 500 individual targets were struck “near-simultaneously.”

“This is the largest strike sortie in the history of the Israeli Air Force, executed after close planning with high-quality intelligence, synchronizing hundreds of aircraft simultaneously,” according to a statement from the IDF. This “enabled the expansion of air superiority over Iranian skies and caused a severe blow to the regime’s central offensive capability, the launch sites in western Iran.”

Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service says it has treated 89 people for injuries sustained during Iranian attacks today, according to The Times of Israel. The majority of those injuries are said to have come “indirectly,” which could include debris resulting from interceptions.

Saudi Arabia’s statement on Iran’s attacks on its bases and those of its Arab allies:

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the treacherous Iranian aggression and the blatant violation of the sovereignty of each of the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, affirming its full solidarity and standing by the side of the sister states, and placing all its capabilities at their disposal to support them in all measures they take, and warning of the grave consequences of the continued violation of the sovereignty of states and the principles of international law.

Black Tomahawk Cruise Missile Seen For The First Time In Strikes On Iran

We may have gotten our first look at the Maritime Strike Tomahawk, and the missile appears to share the same coating as another Navy anti-ship weapon.

The Maritime Strike Tomahawk (MST) is a subvariant of the latest Block V variant of the Tactical Tomahawk (TACOM), and is also known as the Block Va. Though the Block IV TACOM already has a demonstrated anti-ship capability, MST has additional features to optimize it for this role. This most notably includes a new multi-mode guidance system that reportedly includes an imaging infrared seeker. All Block V Tomahawks also come with a two-way data link, allowing them to receive course correction and other targeting updates, as well as be entirely retasked, during flight.

UPDATE: 3:40 PM EST—

A new strike video from Operation Epic Fury has been published on U.S. military social media channels. This one is especially notable for the presence of U.S. Navy F-35C stealth fighters from the carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. These aircraft are seen with single AIM-9X Sidewinder air-to-air missiles carried on external stores stations, complementing whatever is in their internal weapons bays. The same footage also includes F/A-18E/F Super Hornets loaded with 500-pound-class Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) as well as AIM-120 AMRAAM and AIM-9X air-to-air missiles.

UPDATE: 3:30 PM EST—

A spike in activity by aerial refueling aircraft at Lajes in the Azores today could well be indicative of additional U.S. air assets heading across the Atlantic to join the operation. Portuguese television crews recorded five KC-46 Pegasus tankers taking off from the base in just two minutes.

UPDATE: 4:40 PM EST—

Within the last hour, an Iranian missile hit a location in the Tel Aviv area of Israel. Reporters on the scene said they heard sirens and then explosions. Israeli officials say seven people were injured, one badly.

Images from the scene show firefighters outside badly damaged apartment buildings. Whatever the state of the leadership in Tehran at this point, the Iranian missile forces are clearly still an active threat.

U.S. Military Has Used Long-Range Kamikaze Drones In Combat For The First Time

America’s clone of Iran’s Shahed-136 had been used against Iran in an ironic vignette of modern drone warfare.

The U.S. has used LUCAS kamikaze drones for the first time in combat, U.S. Central Command acknowledged on Saturday. The drones, based on the Iranian Shahed-136, were launched from the ground by Task Force Scorpion Strike (TFSS). The task force was set up in December “to flip the script on Iran,” a U.S. official told us at the time. The launch of LUCAS drones marks a rare instance when the U.S. adopted Iran’s drone playbook and used it against them.

Today’s strikes were part of Operation Epic Fury, an attack the U.S. launched along with Israel on targets across Iran.

U.S. CENTRAL COMMAND AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (Nov. 23, 2025) Low-cost Unmanned Combat Attack
System (LUCAS) drones are positioned on the tarmac at a base in the U.S. Central Command operating area,
Nov. 23. Costing approximately $35,000 per platform, LUCAS drones are providing U.S. forces in the
Middle East low-cost, scalable capabilities to strengthen regional security and deterrence. (Courtesy Photo)

As we have explained for years, the Shahed was based on an Israel concept, which also has roots in a German concept. So it is a complicated lineage for sure.

The LUCAS was designed by SpektreWorks. Its website provides basic specifications for a related target drone design called the FLM 136, which has a stated maximum range of 444 miles and can stay aloft for up to six hours. Its total payload capacity, not counting fuel, is 40 pounds, and it cruises at a speed of around 74 knots (with a dash speed of up to 105 knots). Whether these details reflect the capabilities of the operationalized LUCAS design is unclear.
