US, Israel launch attack on Iran as Trump announces 'major combat operations'

Blockade Info

The Navy has delivered its first disabling gunfire against a large surface vessel since 1988, with several 5″/62 rounds delivered into the engine room of the M/V Touska by the USS Spruance (DDG 111) while operating as part of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group.

Dead in the water, Touska was soon boarded in a night operation by Marines from the 31st MEU carried via helicopter from USS Tripoli (LHA 7). Some real deal VBSS stuff on a 73,000-ton/968-foot Panamax-sized container ship– not your more typical seizure of an unflagged dhow that the Navy has typically done in the past several decades.

Such an incident shows the value of a 5-inch gun aboard a grey hull for just such a moment– and underlines why the Navy’s next frigates (and the Coast Guard’s larger cutters) need such a weapon installed. Bofors 57s aren’t going to get it.

The migration of U.S. Navy minesweeping assets west from the Pacific indicates preparations are underway for a major de-mining operation.

As an aside, the Navy’s Lewis. B. Puller class Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) ship USS John L. Canley, which is homeported in the U.S. Pacific territory of Saipan, was also spotted heading west past Singapore on March 23. That ship was subsequently tracked sailing in the Indian Ocean, raising questions about whether it might be headed to the Middle East, as well.

A crisis scenario in and around the Persian Gulf, especially one involving Iran mining the Strait of Hormuz or otherwise threatening that critical waterway, was central to the Navy’s decision to acquire the ESBs in the first place. From the start, a key mission for the sea base ships has been serving, in part, as launch platforms for MH-53E Sea Dragon mine-hunting helicopters.

At the same time, the Navy MH-53E fleet has dwindled in recent years to a single squadron, and the type is set to be completely retired by the end of 2027.

The Canley was seen with an apparent load of V-22 Osprey tiltrotors and MH-60 Seahawk helicopters on its deck as it passed by Singapore last month.

According to Axios, the Israeli defense system successfully intercepted dozens of Iranian missiles aimed at the UAE. This remarkable military and intelligence cooperation has brought the two nations closer than ever.

As a senior Emirati official powerfully stated: "We will not forget who helped protect us – the war opened our eyes to see who our true friends are".

True peace means standing together against the forces of terror!

Related to the start of the War.

An NBC News investigation reveals that an Iranian F-5 fighter likely exploited a brief moment of overwhelming in U.S. air defenses to strike Camp Buehring during the opening phase of Epic Fury, showing that even 1960s jets can penetrate when systems are saturated. As the attack occurred at the exact moment defenses were saturated, it exposes a critical vulnerability in US air defense networks under coordinated attacks, where timing and overload can neutralize technological advantages.

The Iranian F-5 likely flew at very low altitude, compressing detection to a roughly 120-second window between radar contact and impact, leaving almost no time to react. This narrow window was decisive because saturated defenses were already prioritizing faster ballistic threats, enabling the F-5 to slip through and deliver a close-range strike against high-value infrastructure inside the defensive perimeter.

The Iranian F-5 likely flew very low to avoid early radar detection, giving U.S. air defenses less than about 120 seconds to spot, track, and react, which was not enough time under heavy missile and drone attacks to stop it before it reached and struck Camp Buehring.

Have supported Trump from the beginning of the Iranian campaign. Right now not so sure it appears he's giving Iran the time they need to rearm and add to their weapon supplies, possibly nuclear. Know opinions are like a-holes everybody has one.
