How bout a valmet?

I strongly suspect Kalashnikov was perhaps less of an innovator than a copier. Check out the German WWII StG44 rifle which used a 7.92x33mm "kurz" round with slight taper, hence the curved magazine. Seen in the movie "Fury". Remained in service in East Germany until the '50's or '60's.

MK was one man in a committee to design a new gun.
They had a need for heroes even in communist countries.
If you turn a Garand upside down, add in a few stg44 features, perhaps a model 8 Remington safety, bammo there's your AK.

Now I do own and have squished a few 47 akm clones together and I do like them well enough.
Though the 74 type with its 5.45 cartridge is much better.

On my buy list is the Chinese Spiker sold by PSA and I'd like a 5.56 variant to match the 5.56 kit builds I did.

I used to work with a Nam veteran that got wounded and spent better than a year fighting infection.
A bullet passed threw and killed his buddy and then went threw his leg as well. X39 or X54r bullet
