Vietnam’s Forgotten Gunship: The ACH-47A Chinook

I saw a 'Combat Planes' TV show about the Chinook gunship with a view of it shooting all three guns at once. I'd hate to be a target

The Chinook is the fastest helicopter we have. My dad flew lots of fighter jets, but the only model aircraft.he ever bought me was of a Chinook

My second hitch was Army ATC controller, the AH 1, Cobra was the fastest at 190 mph, the ACH flew top speed at 170 mph, the Huey, UH 1 flew 140, the AH 6, Cayuse could hit 175 in level flight, the OH 58 flew 130.
I was Army, but gotta say, the AC 130, (Puff The Magic Dragon) flying up to 300 mph was a devastating A/C in Vietnam as it carried more firepower and could circle targets laying waste. ATC types would take orientation flights (pilot's perspective) of operational areas, taking the front seat in a Cobra beat any roller coaster ride I ever took, never take that ride after breakfast as the pilots would see if they could lose it for you! Proud to say I served with CW4 Durant during my ATC days.

As an OH-58 Jockey I loved the CH-47 for it's complexity and speed. People don't realize how fast that large helicopter actually is, until my little Kiowa couldn't keep up with it.

And to think it leaked more hydraulic fluid than the 58 held... If it was a OH-58 A or C, yeah, pretty much everything leaves ya, lol. But have some time in the 206 A/B/C/ L1/L3/L4, something about the old school and the way they fly. The OH-58D and 407, a bit faster, but drank the fuel.
