Virginia “Assault Firearms” Ban Passes Legislature

Musashi

Professional
The bill was signed into law today.
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) signed a ban on popular semiautomatic rifles and shotguns into law Thursday which will take effect July 1, 2026.

I just don't get this stuff, I lean a little left on some things (but I'm 99.732% sure I'm not a Commie), and I lean a hard right on other things, like this ban.

Why do people even do this? It's almost a 100% certainty it'll be overturned right? So why waste the ink, the time and the money? It isn't even good press, so you lose there too.

I'm no expert on the Constitution, but as I understand it, our elected officials are supposed to vote/govern based on the Constitution, so how can they vote in favor of something that, near as I can tell, is pretty cut and dry violation of the right of the people to bear arms...The Constitution doesn't tell us what arms we're "allowed" to bear, or how many etc...

I just don't get it...

Because while it winds through the courts they expect to get an injunction allowing them to keep it in effect.

The plan is to drag the litigation out as far as possible. They anticipate either bleeding the resources of their opponents dry (while using their money via taxes to attack their rights) or get people to accept it as legitimate since the ban has been in effect for so long.

There should be a requirement that private money fund legal battles while the issue is being litigated. It would prevent most of this crap.

Simple, precedent and posturing to appease the people who fund their campaigns. Follow the money. Clearly the system is corrupt. You could ask the same question about balancing the budget or term limits but you'd be wasting your breath. Constitution? We don' need no stinkin' constitution. /s

100% this! It also give the pols who pull these stunts the ability to state things like “I tried to make you and your kids safe, but the “other side” prevented it…you MUST vote for me so I can keep trying!”

And of course, they leave out the part about how these constitutionally illegal laws only affect law abiding citizens trying to protect themselves and their families while the criminals and psychos who shoot up schools will ALWAYS be able to get their guns through the black market(s) regardless of how many restrictions are made on law abiding citizens.

The same criminal and psychos that those who restrict constitutional self defense abilities from law abiding citizens continue to put back on the street repeatedly with their cashless bail and catch and release systems.

There are many Americans that didn't have the opportunity to spend time on foreign soil as I did, as a kid. They were not blessed to see the raw side of Germany in the late 60s and early 70s. The calamity caused by the SS et al. The camps with the death chambers. The lamp shade made from human skin, which sat on some sick bat turds desk.

These are the prices of freedom that people have paid, just in WWII. Some might say that I'm going to far, extreme, exaggerating, etc. but I lived there for 2 years and saw these things with my two eyes. If the Left ever disarms America, I sincerely hope that I am dead.
