Walter Koenig "Ensign Chekov" of the original Star Trek die at 90

No, he had an injury that he couldn't treat or really get over, and the addiction got the better of him, you might want to research the guy before you pass your Holy judgment on him.

I'm sure you walk on water in your spare time.
No, but when I had 18 teeth removed from my head, I eschewed the synthetic opiates offered to alleviate the pain. I didn't want to take any possible risk of addiction, regardless of how remote. (Healing without painkillers is far quicker and results in less scarring). Thank you, but NO, THANK YOU!

I'm not "tough", but I'm not stupid either.

People do various substances for one critical factor, they want to feel different. Understanding and treating the addiction requires months of work for tx staff, and the patient.

Addiction is a crazy disease. It sounds so easy to say I'll stop. But when you understand addiction process and how the body responds to the substance, it can be a wild ride.

I wanted to be Virgil Tracy when I was a kid growing up in England. Then we moved to the States and I discovered Star Trek and grew my hair long to be like Mr Chekhov (little did I know that he was wearing a wig). And then I got a bit older and wanted to get it on with the purple-haired girls who flew the Interceptors in UFO. Good hair has always been in the mix somewhere!

Like I said, continue to instruct on walking on water.........

I would try to explain, because I've researched his life, and death, but you are so closed minded you wouldn't breath to spite a conflicting opinion
I buried two family members to addiction. One to Alcoholism, the other to tobacco/cannabis addiction/habit. I am quite familiar with addiction/substance abuse.

You are preaching to the choir.

I used to be a big time baseball and football fan till both went woke and gave into the woke crowd by changing team names and woke messages in the end zones….pathetic
Same here. Baseball and Football. Although I now have more time to get things done and spend time with my wife doing things. I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. Kind of like moving to Exmouth, Western Australia at the age of 8. Thought I would miss television. Had more fun there as a child than stateside due to having to find things to do outside and not in front of the boob tube.

I know a man who had inadvertently become addicted to opiates. (These had been prescribed by a doctor and were not bought on the street.) Bill went through withdrawals and "white-knuckled" his way through the entire physiological/psychological readjustment. The man will never be able to use any opiate (either natural, or synthetic) to alleviate pain for the remainder of his life. I have the greatest respect for the man. Not many can recover as valiantly as he did. He's been "clean" to this very day. He helps people recover from drug and alcohol abuse.

Enough said.
