Was the 1911’s Grip Safety a Mistake?

I’m stunned that people have issues with a 1911 grip safety. You hold the gun, the safety is taken care of. If your grip is not strong enough to activate the grip safety, how do you rack a slide? Should one be handling guns at all if that is the case?

Definitely, plus everybody is used to the polymer guns, not a real true blue pistol.

Let me see, they originally carried it with the hammer down and added a safety thingy for locked and cocked. As they mounted up and headed into battle, negating any spare time needed to rack a round. But as a back-up to absolutely knowing it was go time, with the lock now off, they added a grip safety that one must grab the firestick, with intent to deactivate all safeties... Yep, they got it right for the mission it was designed to accomplish, where is the problem?

It's a traditional feature of 1911 , so it is default included on a 1911 ( or 2011 ) design .

The typical reasoning is for just in case you have a fast awakward grasp upon the gun , when you have to shoot Right Now .

Back in the day , with GI grip safety , for some people there was a fraction of 1% of concern . Nowadays , speedbumps , or wedge shaped is Normal .
