Just a comment from my perspective. Over the last month or 2 I dipped my toes into a BMW motorcycle forum since I bought one (and a second) over the last year. Holy cow what a bunch of D-bags. The blatant insults directed at posters is breathtaking. Some replies are helpful (maybe 20-30%), some are trying to anger the OP with derogatory insults (20-30%), and the rest in the middle make funny comments about the OP to get a laugh (not necessarily mean....just off-topic looking to entertain). That forum CLEARLY shows how BMW bikers get their reputation. All my friends ride hogs and all are the nicest people you'd ever meet.

By comparison, this forum's contributors (95%) are the nicest, most polite people around...enjoy that while you can and hope it stays that way.

That’s the truth. And I say that as a guy with 20 years experience not just participating in forums( mostly music gear related) but owning one and moderating a couple.
 
I couldn’t agree more. I move around quite a few forums and some of them are downright toxic, some are helpful but not particularly interesting, while this forum has a great collegial membership ( that means nice people for the Cretins) (and yes, it does, for the Curmudgeons) and many, many people I would happily sit down and have a beer with.
 
agreed. I've moderated corporate chat in a previous life. But BMW chats notwithstanding, try investor chat sites. That can be fight club, but with silk gloves on. I mostly avoid the taunts and challenges (eg. Why would you buy xyz now - isn't that the stupid money, or, I disagree with your tepid stance on this sector - sounds like you need some training courses. Etc. etc.) Things get real nasty when things go down or sell off, and the 45 vs 9m vs whatever stuff we play at here seems downright collegial in comparsion. People start mentioning bringing in lawyers and the like. Avoid those chat sites if you can.

Rest assured, I will not be returning to bike site I described.
 
I recently leased an I5 and bimmerpost has been very helpful with nice people. I think this is a ymmwv. Some people suck 🤷‍♂️ unfortunately there are those that live a second life online, those that just want to argue to be right and not have a discussion to learn, and those that just want to get a rise out of people.

I have a couple of BMW motorcycles and have participated off and on in two or three BMW-centered forums and have seen none of that. I’ve always found them quite friendly, if a bit quirky (such as the lingo used).

However, I have only been on one of those places much in the past couple of years, so maybe the other ones have deteriorated.
 
There are a bunch of members that have been here for years. While we don't always think with one mind we always respect each others opinions and every day you can learn something new about our hobby. We are truely a band of brothers and sisters. I value the long distance friendships that I've made here.

i am on the explorer ST, gen 14 f150 and ford truck enthusiasts forum
the f150 and here are filled with people that actually seem to like life and most people. the other 2 are well....you know.

sure we will rib you, and help you and then laugh when you fall down a set of stairs, but we also will be at the bottom to help get you back up.. some we know in person and many we know simply as a friendly on a forum, and as far as we know many of you could be old , naked and hiding in a basement, or part of the matrix and we are merely random bits of 0s and 1s
but at least we are 0s and 1s that like firearms and friendly chats , with knowledge
