Wow!! So so sorry to hear this, thoughts and prayers sent, my condolences, try and take care of your mom at this time, you take care yourself also. It’s not going to be easy, but we’re here if you need to talk……A sad day in the boatr household
wife was not feeling well and slept in the easy chair,
i couldnt sleep all night, something kept waking me up, every 30 minutes it seemed.
then around 530 ish mrs boatr is waking me up telling me there is a problem next door at my parents
my mom is frantic on the phone,
so i stumble around grabbed shorts and a shirt, walked into the door,
got to moms and she is freaking outside yelling at me dad has died, so i woke the fluck up then and ran into the house, to find him on the floor beside the commode pretty much gone, stiff , cold and no pulse
then a mom hands me the phone and ems is yelling at me to start cpr as ambulance is a mere 20 minutes out..why the hospital is 8 miles?
so i cant get him on his back because he wedged his lower half between wall and potty
so i have my knee and thigh in his back doing compressions, i heard the breast bone crack
got a very faint pulse then it would go, this felt like hours, finally a deputy grabbed me and they did cpr until ems arrived
they got him on thumper and off they went, but he was already gone, no electrical or any brain waves.
82 years old and a NAVY veteran, had a hard last 2 years with the leg amputation, last month been sick with pain in shoulders from wheel chair and walkers. VA had just restarted his home care 3x a week.
he was sleeping alone last night as he had real bad congestion and mom had to catch a few winks to be able function.
i assume he did not want to wake her as he got in his chair to go pee, he always wakes her..ALWAYS
its so hard to do cpr on ones you love and all the while knowing they are gone.
i really wanted him to have a chance to go out in the boat, i ran out of time i guess
but i did get to say bye to him, even though he was gone
it hurts pretty bad, but i also found a small humor that he would have liked so i reminded him he pulled an elvis and left this coil while on the toilet, and he was bottomless.
i know he got a laugh out of that.
i sure will miss him, an awful lot
i never knew my biological dad, but this man took care of me from 1 yr old. always loved me and even when i made him mad.. he would find away to make me feel bad and not yell at me, then forgive
he was always there to shine a light on my path in life , even when he knew it was not the right path at that time.
i know now what was waking me up,
RIP peace David A. SLOANE USN
