What are you doing right now??

Hi,

I put up a string of lights this afternoon. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

I might put up some more later. Those hedges under the bedroom windows usually get covered with a white light mesh but those strings were bad and kept blowing fuses on the colored strings. We'll see if Mrs. BassCliff wants to go to the store tomorrow. In other news, I put my new Sig sticker on my gun cabinet.

Hmm, I don't have a sticker for my little Walther, Kahr, Rossi, Henrey, or Glock. What's up with that?

Have a good evenin' err'body!

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Just remembering 50 years ago tomorrow I went to basic training in the Air Force. I spent the 3 major holidays in San Antonio TX--what a joy. Of course I had spent 3 years in the Army before enlisting in the Air Force. Honestly it doesn't feel that long ago but it is. A lot has happened since that day both good and bad, happiness and sadness. If I had to do it all again I would with a couple of minor variations. All in all a good life with interesting people. Just wish most of them were still around, they made me laugh. 50 years! Now i'm starting to feel old!

I do know how you feel. I attended basic training in July of 1975 at CFB Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. The girls in my platoon wanted to get together for a 50th reunion, but nothing ever transpired. Not many of us stayed close after basic. Many of them went into admin and logistics. I went into aircraft maintenance and air weapons systems. Sometimes it feel like only yesterday...

I am with you brother. 55 years since my first experience with Lackland. Where the heck did the time go?

Being as I was a re-tread from the Army didn't have to go to Air Force basic. It was crappy lost a stripe was Staff Sgt E-6 in the Army reduced to Staff Sgt E-5 in Air Farce.
Coming from the Army, I had to start all over again at the bottom. I had to start at the beginning and go through Marine Corps Boot Camp. They kind of gave me a hard time for being prior service Army. But I knew it was all head games.

Bet that really sucked. I was the only member in my family that didn't go into the Marines caught a fair amount of crap for going Army. My cousin John was awarded a Silver Star & Purple Heart at the siege of Khe Shan (SP) only made it to Sgt after 8 years. After 4 years in th Air Farce was still an E-5.
