they work great.
we have 2 brands. the original Arcadia Trail mat works the best I think, but the newer Pelsbarn mats work well also.
The American flag one from pelsbarn I think is different material than the blue ones, so I dont like the flag one as much. dogs seem to prefer the blue pelsbarn or arcadia trail the best.
the mats/blanket actually are cool to the touch on the top side when you put your hands on them. now, over time in direct sun they lose some effect, but indoors or in shady areas, they stay pretty cool to the touch. basically cooling sheets for humans made into dog mats.
