Hello all, here is today's article posted on TheArmoryLife.com. It is titled “What Are Your Training Scars?” and can be found at https://www.thearmorylife.com/what-are-your-training-scars/.

I learned and taught my students to carry a speed strip in their shirt pocket in addition to speedloaders for tactical reloadsWe were not allowed speed loaders because you could not do a partial load with them. The capt in charge of firearms made the policy. We also carried 38 special ammo that the same capt loaded in his garage.
Wow! My current range master used to much stricter... his motto was:We were not allowed speed loaders because you could not do a partial load with them. The capt in charge of firearms made the policy. We also carried 38 special ammo that the same capt loaded in his garage.
147 grain subsonic 9mm was developed for use in suppressed SMG's. We used it in our MP5's and it solved a problem and worked very well.. We tried some of it in our handguns and it was pretty puny. I understand it worked pretty well in handguns when sped up to max velocity but I have no experience with it.My scar wasn't from bad training it was from bad management. We had a chief investigator that came from the feds. He mandated 147gr rounds for all carrying 9mm. One morning at the range a guy was shooting some and you could see the bullet going down range, it was going so slowly. Shooting it at the center of a steel target gave a light "tink" sound when even light load 115gr ball was making a light 'clang' sound hitting the same spot. That day I switched over to my Colt Commander in .45 and have never fired another 147gr since.
Welcome. Where are you? NRA may have training near you that would meet your needs. At 70 and with a bad back I wish I could find training I could afford, living on social security, and a small retirement fund. Also have COPD so about 40 feet is about all the slow movement I can do then have to stop to catch my breath, even with my O2 generator. Have to walk with a cane or better yet my "rollator" (4 wheeled walker). Makes all of my shots one handed which slows down my follow up shots. Still I carry my S&W Shield (in 40 cal) with 2 spare mags. It would be nice to find affordable ($100 or less) training designed for people like me. And in my area, can't afford to travel and live in hotels either. Could do a hour to hour and a half drive though. As far as any hand to hand stuff goes a 10 year old could beat me. Getting old is a *****, catches up to everyone sooner or later.
