I am not sure I understand what the term “proofing” a pistol means, how it is done or why it is done.

I do know that Mossberg Proofs every long gun produced and this is something that should not be done by the average gun owner as it requires
“as noted by the article”
special equipment to avoid injuries in case of catastrophic failure.
I’m also not aware if proof loads are even available to average gun enthusiasts.
