What happened in 1920 to cause the creation of the ACLU?

It is hard to imagine that the US Department of Justice could do these things.

"On January 2, 1920. Justice Department agents conducted raids in 33 cities, resulting in the arrest of 3,000 people."

"Abuses of arrestees were routine: In Detroit, nearly 1,000 men were detained and starved for almost a week in a small area without windows on the top floor of the federal building.

They were later transferred to Fort Wayne to be tortured during questioning. Family members of prisoners were assaulted in front of them as part of interrogation."

Not that hard to imagine. Google CIA corruption or FBI corruption and you will see some seriously heinous :poop:.

Remember, this is the government who we don't need to fear and who we can totally trust to protect us. We don't need that outdated second amendment.

That's the most amazing thing to me about anti-gun people. Not politicians, they all really want us to be unarmed or at a minimum they don't really care, but just regular people. Ordinarily the same people calling for gun control are the ones crying about institutionalized racism and other government abuses. Lots of these people were at Woodstock. They remember people getting the crap beat out of them for protesting in Los Angeles in 1966. They remember the 4 students gunned down by the National Guard in Ohio. Now magically we can trust the government not to dramatically overstep their authority and become despotic ? Really?

I have always been a guy that doesn't let politics interfere with friendships, but for the life of me I can't figure out why the left is so blinded by their lying politician heroes that they are willing to walk right into the gas chamber.

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I did not speak out;
I was not a Jew.
When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out.

The left should teach this in school instead of their socialist values.
When the left slowly takes your freedoms away they will never come back.
The media is the biggest cause of this thinking that government will take care of us and protect us by removing the means to protect ourselves and when this country is at the mercy of our so called leaders those words written in the '30's will be true again.
Thanks for the morning rant, need more coffee....

You do know the ACLU's founder was a full fledged Communist?

America needs a good ACLU, wish we had one.

The current one, for ever good thing it does, it does at least 4 bad things. Its riddled with leftist that many have little respect for the constitution, they simply want to tear the system down. Then every once in a while they actually make good on their word, after trying to damage the constitution the system, and actually do something good for the constitution.

And yes the American public is being conditioned to be emotional reactionaries over actual educated and informed fact based decision makers. This is how you get "Cops are Racist Thugs Brutally abusing Minorities, Defund the Police" but then, "Only Cops should have guns".

So, they were given the same treatment, abuse, torture, etc., that they supported and that their ideologies have and still inflict upon people to this very day, and they were somehow victims in all of this? No, they were reaping what they had sown. Make no mistake, this is exactly what the leftists/marxists/communists/anarchists want to do to everybody who doesn't fall in line with their way of thinking and acting. And in the countries they run, that is exactly what they are doing. Russia, China, Venezuela, Cuba. They all want that here. And they are indoctrinating the children in our schools to follow this. And it is now out that the CIA had involvement in the assassination of JFK. Confirming what many of us already knew. Also, look what they did to the Japanese Americans in this nation during WWII. Look at what they have done to those involved in the Jan 6 protests. Look at the way the DOJ and FBI have abused citizens for political reasons.

IF it was wrongs things for the right reasons, would it make it better than right things for the wrong reasons? Try not to believe the government has any rational thinking! It's gone downhill since 1776 on law making as for the NOW laws are against you!

Didn’t know this, good read, thanks!

Honestly, a lot if you act like this didn’t happen again and again.

1950’s—McCarthyism. A chronic drunk senator from Wisconsin ruined hundreds of lives with baseless accusations.

2000’s..the Muslim scare. Gitmo and rendition.

I could go on… but don’t act like this surprises you.

In the run up to and through WWII, Hoover wanted the entire intelligence mission, foreign and domestic. Fortunately both FDR and Truman did not trust Hoover's FBI with that much power and we got CIA, which by law cannot conduct intelligence operations in the U.S. FBI has the Counterintelligence mission in the US. By its nature intelligence activity is conducted in secret, which often provides opportunities for abuse. Those necessary powers must be strictly controlled by leadership, and therein lies the problem. Many senior FBI leaders have come to see themselves as "players" and catch Potomac Fever. I would move their HQ to Boise.
