They used to make compact 1911’s—Officer’s/Defender 3-3.5” barrel, compact grip.
They haven’t for years. IIRC, the Springfield micros never ran well.

The smaller you make a 1911, the more difficult it is to get it to work right, spring weight, slide mass and such all have to be considered when downsizing any 1911, like @HansGruber said, the one Springfield had didn’t run well, I had one, very unreliable pistol.

Springfield still offers a 3" 9mm 1911.
With the current popularity of the 9mm round, I would guess they didn't sell many in 45 ACP.
9mm ammo is about half the price of 45 ACP plus you get 9 rounds in the magazine.

Exactly. 1911s in .45acp get downright finicky when barrel length goes below 4". I have an older SA Ultra-Compact that I spent a couple of years tinkering with off and on before I finally got it reasonably reliable.
Honestly, I really don't care that much for such a small 1911. It feels awkward in my hand and the recoil pulse is just off. I much prefer a Commander size gun for carry.

I traded my Kimber in on my current XDs . 45 3.3" BBL. and a Ruger LCP II .380 . I was really missing not having a 1911 until I bought the garrison a few weeks ago. Now all is right in the World again.

I never had a failure with the Sig Ultra but then I had to pay for the quality from the custom shop
