I get your point , largely in congruence with * my * point . But the expansion into ( what's comfortable to shoot a whole buncha rounds in a day / session ) is a jump sideways , with still another set parameters and tradeoffs .

Standard pressure .38 Spl from medium frame or larger revolver is absolutely fun to shoot all day . Most people's trigger finger will get tired , before they notice recoil .

Standard pressure 9x19 , from a full size gun , is fun to shoot all day .

Mainstream mfg .44 Spl ammo ( or equivalent home loads ) from most any .44 mag revolver , subjectively feels like shooting .22 Shorts .

The difference , is the guns don't weigh Pound or less , or hide in a pair of speedos .

Good points, all valid. I suppose one could buy low-power loads in many calibers, but the person firing the weapon is a factor as well. A lightweight gun is easy to hold, but conversely recoils more. But my S&W 29-2 8 3/8-in weighs 3 1/2 lbs, which would be a great candidate for lower-power 44 specials should someone wanna do that. (I don't.) ...but that's not a gun everyone can hold. In the end, there are a ton of variables. That's why it's such a PITA to be asked "what kind of gun should I buy?" A British friend of mine had a saying: how long is a piece of string? That's normally where I start! :-)

I've thought about it, buying just the basic gun and carrying that. I have seen and heard a LOT of firearm sources who advocate carrying a smaller, cheaper firearm, one you can afford to lose in the follow-up to an encounter. Whenever the cops take someone's gun, it takes ages to get it back. A standard Hellcat .380 would be a great pistol you could afford to lose. I see all these Ed Brown and Wilson custom "carry" guns going for $2-4,000 and always laugh. I'm certain the added accuracy isn't worth the thought of losing one's gun until the second coming of Jesus. For the record, my Hellcat 9mm standard with laser and PRP trigger is still about a $900 gun. Other than the Charter Arms Pitbull 9mm I own, I don't own anything less expensive that I can CCW with.

Legitimate mindset. I get it. Temporary seizure, especially during an investigation, is real. Yeah, the price is right for sure.
