The Pentagon has tested bullpup rifles for decades, but from the Steyr AUG to the RM277, every one has been rejected.

Before i even read the article i was going to say lefties (not in the liberal sense) can’t really shoot them.
I dunno. Some models at least are able to be set for lefties if desired. I find the balance of them to be “weird” (butt heavy). I suspect the strange balance may play a part. Also, the few I’ve handled seem to be awfully heavy (again, perhaps the weird balance?).

Being the cynical sob that I am, I'm betting the real reason has to do with money. Not the amount of money the DOD has to spend, but the amount of money that gets kicked back, and who gets how much.

Probably because the muzzle is much closer, and they determined than in a combat environment soldiers may not have time to find and dawn ear pro increasing many active and leaving vets with hearing damage.

Some bullpups have left-side ejection ports & by swapping out the bolt to eject to the left.

And some design eject to the front.
I had a KelTec RDB; the downward ejection was really nice.

I also got lucky and got one that ran great out of the box.

Unfortunately, it was unacceptably inaccurate…about 5-6” at 100 yards, no matter what ammo.

I think RDBs use FAL Mags.
