Winter socks?

i try and not get my feet to warm or hot as when they sweat they start to get cold. most of the time i don't wear socks, but some boots just rub against my ankles and/or calves, so i have to wear them. for 5 years i've been trying to find boots that work for me (wolverine steel toe/composite) whether they're insulated or not. 2 sizes will work, 11.5EE or 12D..........usually if 1 doesn't, the other will? and they have to be U-toes and not square or pointed types....my toes need room! now i'm stuck with the twisted brand for now and had to go 12EE in those.

The Mrs. knits my winter socks.
Go to your local independent yard goods/ yarn shop and ask around. I'm sure you will find someone that will be happy to sell you socks made just for you out of any weight, blend, or wool you wish.
If you want warm feet, as a kid we learned to put bread bags over out stocking feet before putting on our boots. Yup, your feet sweat and there is not high-tech evaporation, but better than snow, slush and ice water seeping it through the holes in your boots.

well i used to wear "thermal socks" as a trucker, cuz in big trucks, no matter how high you have the heat set to, or the fan speed, the cold air rushing into the radiator, made sure the floor area of the truck was always COLD, as the trucks heating system can never keep up with the demands.

so to stave off cold feet, i wore insulated boots as well.

but no matter what, we are all somewhat normal in that our feet get hot, and sweat, and we still get cold feet sooner or later.

its best to have several pairs of socks AND dry boots, for a quick change over.

i have never found ANY so-called thermal sock to be 100% satisfactory.

so i don't go in for advertising claims, or what others say.....

Earlier in life I lived on the mountain, down-hill skiing. Some days I'd be out in -10F or lower in the mornings. Believe or not, I found my feet warmest with the thinnest socks available, making more room for my feet in a tight ski boot. Captured air around the foot made for the warmest over time...that, and spraying my feet with aerosol antiperspirant before suiting up. Makes a world of difference.
