XD 16rd Magazine Question.

Quick question for you long time Springfield owners.

I have a XD Mod 3, It obviously came with just the one mag, I have since bought 3 more OE mags.

The question, the mag that came with the gun, rattles when fully loaded with 16 rounds...dump one and the rattle is gone.

The 3 mags I bought from Joe Bob Outfitters are all silent when fully loaded.

All four mags load and feed normally, I probably have 50-100 rounds through each, but every full reload of that one mag results in a rattle... I have seen some mention online of 16 round Springfield mags rattling...But the fact that I only have one that does is kinda curious.

Should I keep this rattling mag? or is there some kind of failure coming my way?

I don’t think it’s an issue really, does it function ok? My original XDm full size 9mm with the 18 round mag rattles when fully loaded, both of them.

Freeze Dirt Bag!
Ohh his magazines rattle.

OK, that's funny. 🤣

I'm admittedly fairly new to handguns, I was raised around rifles, a few shotguns, and the occasional revolver my Dad would bring home, but really nothing that would be defined as "modern".

So, to me and my fairly limited experience, a rattle is weird.

I was an auto technician for 23 years, now I'm in the parts dept., but as a tech, typically rattles are something loose or broken, so I figured it was worth a question.

Thanks for the info! I did see in my basic internet search there was mention about how the mags could have loose rounds, so what you're saying certainly confirms that!

Well it certainty makes sense from a mechanics point of view that anything that rattles or make noise can't be good.

Ever get the bearing out of one of them plastic tensioner pullys?
The steel idler bearing can be replaced easy enough.

Rattling on start up?
Ahh the cam phaser dealeos are out of this Ford with the 6 foot chain.
Or, it comes standard on all Fiat Heeps.

Nope, at least not one that survived long, in my opinion plastics (polymers) are fine for handguns lowers etc... but actual spinning engine components?? Not so much.

Yeah, cold start rattles are (were) really common on the Honda's we deal with frequently (mostly mid 2000's CR-V's, but there are a few others too).

Fortunately during my time at an independent shop I never really had to deal with Fiats, beyond maybe basic maintenance or some brake work, but I heard plenty of bad stories about those things.
