XDM elite options on optics

I know I’ll get different answers but I been looking at optics for the XDm elite. Since I didn’t get plates with the firearm but thinking about getting a Holosun. Would I need to get a plate for a Holosun 407? Did anyone upgrade their sights to co witness? Right now I’m on the fence about doing this but given it thought.

which XDM Elite? (size?)
what is the primary purpose of the pistol: conceal carry? nightstand gun? training gun?

Is your Elite OSP ready? I ask because I have a 4.5 Elite that's a little older before they started doing optics ready.

There's plenty of good optics out there
what you want to consider is what size window do you want. The Holosun 507k x2 is what I run on my hellcat pro since it conceals well.
If you want a slightly larger window because you're not conceal carrying, I would look at the newer Vortex Defender optics.
The ST is a good in between size.
the XL is really nice but that's probably more suited for training / competition gun as the window size is one of the largest and designed to compete with something like the Holosun 507 Comp

also, do you want things to co-witness?
and do you have a preference on open or closed emitter optics.

I have a XDm-9 and the XDm Elite in full size.

Right now I’m not sure if I want to copy my M&P’s setup with a 407/507 for my XDm Elite yet. I’m liking the irons when I shoot.

With my M&P’s I have compressor high sights and like the co witness that it provides.

That’s my opinion for now.

the S&W's are nice.
If you're looking for something different; go with a Vortex Defender St. Bass Pro currently has it on sale.

My advice: do not co-witness this.
Just run the standard sights, it'll be different from what you run now but here's Jedi's hot take; Co-witnessing irons is unnecessary.

shifting to an optic, you'll be re-training your eyes to be target focused and you want as little as possible cluttering up your window and pulling your focus away from the target.
I shot irons my whole life but once I made the switch to red dots 5 years ago, there was no turning back. It is a superior sighting system. I never used or see my iron sights anymore.

try that, see what you like and you can always make changes to it if you end up preferring something like the S&W setup.
fortunately the price of optics has come down and the quality / selection has gone up so you'll have plenty of options without breaking the bank.
