XDs Mod 2 Magazine Release

Finally took my XDs Mod 2 OSP(ready) to the range and put or tried to put several magazines through it. I found that the magazine would eject sometimes under recoil. I think my hand is hitting the right side magazine release button. Upon closer inspection with the slide open, I found that when I pushed the right-side magazine release, it would hang up, staying depressed. Has anyone experienced this? I cleaned the gun and oiled it, working the heck out of the release, and it seemed to smooth out a bit. I will test it again in the near future to see if that malfunction happens again. This is not what I expected from a new gun.

could just be since the gun is new (as it appears to be), everything is a wee bit snug.

call Springfield, but i know i would give it a drop of oil as you did, and work it in a bit more.

"stuff happens"...don't be overly zealous to condemn the gun or the company

I am not condemning them per se, just expressing my wonder. I'll see if it's a matter of break-in. It's my first polymer gun. Not that I haven't had any issues with all-metal guns when new, but usually it's something different.

My Kimber Micro 9 had a similar issue, the mags wouldn’t go in, mag release was stiff, took it out and put some gun gease in the slot, put it back in, worked it a few times, problem was gone

I think I had the issues once or twice while breaking in a new firearm. Just remember things do need to be broken in. My Glock G22.5 is kinda weird because the magazines are a little tight but are working better now.

Hi @macmanjim,

My wife has a Kahr CW9 that has a mag drop issue on occasion. Turns out it was her grip putting pressure on the release. I could repeat the issue if I wasn't careful. I think Kahr has an upgraded part that's supposed to be a drop-in fix. We rarely shoot it so that's been on the back burner.

All that to say, watch your thumbs. ;) And welcome to the forum.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I imagine that is happening, but I think it's the pad on my right hand under the right index finger that's doing it. I am not touching the left side release. I think it depresses and stays depressed, at least long enough to release the magazine. With the slide back and magazine out, I could depress the right side release, and it would stay there.
