XDs Optic and Mount

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. :)

Depending on the specific model of optic you choose, you will need a specific mounting plate for the interface. I prefer C&H Precision plates. They have a terrific mounting kit available as well, with tools, markers, thread locker, everything you need.

They have helpful installation videos too. Even this old bass player was able to install an optic. ;)

Please note that newer models, i.e. XD-S Mod 2 OSP, are direct mount and do not require an adapter plate.

What specific pistol, and what specific optic are we talking about?

Hi,

My gun does not have an optic cut.
Yes, that is my gun.

Sorry, just saw your response.

If your slide does not have an optic cut, there is nowhere to mount an adapter plate for an optic. I do not know if there is a replacement slide with an optic cut available for your pistol. I know there are places that will mill your slide in order to fit an optic. The top of your slide can be machined, screw holes tapped, etc, in order to fit an adapter plate and optic.

It may be cheaper and easier to buy the XD9 Mod.3 to install an optic. Online prices have been less than $275. I have one. It's a fine pistol for your first optic. That's why I bought one.

Let us know which way you want to go and we'll try to point you in the right direction.

I bought an Outerimpact mount that fits into the dovetail cut for the rear site and a Holosun 407K X2 for the site. I think I will find a gunsmith to install them, since I don't have the tool(s) to remove the site and install the mount.

Brilliant! I'm sorry I didn't think of that. That's a clever solution. Please let us know how it works out for you.

@Wirenut, thanks for the links. :)

Hello, I have an XD9, just received the OSP slide assembly from Springfield and Viridian RFX15 on the same day, it was like Christmas today!! Totally lost because the included plate came with only two unused screws and the slide has three screws holding in a piece that needs to come out. The plate that came with the slide has a spot for three screws as well. In addition, the Viridian came with a few different sets of screws, I’m sure for all different varieties. So I’m anxious and cautious to start. The first head scratcher is receiving 2 screws when it looks like there should be three and I’m tempted just to use the three that were already screwed in that need to be removed.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm quite the neophyte when it comes to optics but I did install a Holosun on my XD9 Mod.3.

Remove those three screws from the top of your slide. Then remove the optic cut part. Replace that with the optic plate (adapter) using the same screws. Use the 2 new screws to attach the red dot to the optic plate (adapter).

Keep the optic cut part just in case you ever want to remove the red dot and make it stock again.

If you did not recieve the proper screws, or have any difficulty fitting the screws, there are places to buy just what you need, length, thread, etc. I like C&H Precision.

Edit: Oops! One more thing. Be sure to "dry fit" everything before you locktite or torque the screws.

Well Cliff, I used the three screws that came with the slide. After taking them out and comparing them, the additional two are direct replacements for the original three, I figured just in case of a goof up?
For the record, the Viridian RFX15 comes with several sets of screws for mounting the optic, the set that works with the slide plate provided with the XD9 OSP slide is marked by Viridian as
“M4-0.7x7.5mm”
“200-0061-001”
I can’t wait to zero it and go to the range. You’ve been an incredible help!!
