Ted Nugent carried firearm into Michigan Capitol https://www.ourmidland.com/news/article/ted-nugent-illegally-carried-firearm-michigan-20397017.php

If it is indeed illegal to carry a firearm into Michigan's capital this brings up several interesting points.

Why was the State Tropoer not paying attention to the screening equipment when it flagged, not noticing until well after the fact. Why was nothing done when it was noticed, celebrities should be subject to the same laws. What is this discretion the trooper used to allow the firearm, is this something only for celebrities?

Dont get me wrong I like Ted Nugent, have met and chatted with him. And knowing him, he probably did it deliberately to push the issue, but, the law is in place and I bet if it was an old man nobody like me I would be face down with a couple young strong troopers cuffing me. I play the game by thier rules just to keep my CPL same should be done for everyone.

Interesting situation, not sure I am liking.

Yea, agree met him years ago at the NRA convention in Pittsburgh, but no-one is above the law.

He lives near Waco, but still owns property in Michigan. And I really disagree with his stance on Russian boars, we do not need more of them in Michigsn to get loose and make a worse mess than they already do.
I remember reading years ago that the rapid spread of feral hogs took place because ranchers/ landowners/farmers imported them for hunting. The idea was to charge hunters big bucks to hunt them. Only problem was that the hogs got loose from whatever enclosures they were in and went wild!

I’ll be that guy!

It amazes me how most of the folks around have selected outrage.

Some chastise S&W for the lock, some still criticize Ruger for a Bill Ruger comment on 10 round magazines, and of course Springfield armory for the alleged Illinois bill on gun companies

Then there’s the whole Epstein list or the school grooming allegations around the county which I get.

But isn’t this the same dude that talked about sleeping with underage girls?

I know my state and several others the age of consent is 16 unless a ward (coach, teacher etc.)

Guess it’s ok if it’s not their daughter or relative

As an aside, just listened to an interview with Ted Nugent. He was going on an on about game laws in MI. Then asks why don't the state wildlife employee's raise hell "They know what wrong... I'll lose my pension... You Puss". Guess that's easy to say with a net worth of $20,000,000   .

Every story I have read about this seems to show the fault of this is on security. And every story says Ted complied with law enforcement/security when finally confronted. If he got special treatment, it was because of them. Unless other reports come out and say otherwise.

Hi,

Yeah, weird story. I imagine this happens to a lot of us who carry. We just "forget" that we are carrying, we are so comfortabe with it. But whenever I see a metal detector I know the place is serious about "no weapons".

The law is the law, and no one is above the law, right? Was it lawful for the security to use their discression and allow Ted a pass? Was it their fault and their responsibility that this "breach" occurred? Why should anyone get upset that a law-abiding citizen was carrying? How often do criminals and felons obey a "no weapons" notice and honor "gun free" zones?

Yes, it seems that Ted was compliant and cooperative once the error came to light. To me, this is a non-issue. Unless you'd like to admonish the security personnel. There was no danger to any persons, staff, officers, officials, or politicians in attendance. No need for Rep. Pohutsky to get her knickers in a twist. However, I think after this incident the security staff will be paying closer attention. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

If Nugent is living in Florida now, maybe he didn’t know about the rule change. The article said the law was just updated in 2023 that firearms are not allowed in the Capital building. Prior to that, it was ok to bring a firearm into the building. I wouldn’t really blame Uncle Ted for this…

The news story is not clear to me. They refer to what Nugent did as a violation of policy at least two times. They never say that he broke any law.

The representative said that what Nugent did was a violation of law and that Nugent wasn't exempt from the law and I agree with that.

Be it a rule or a law if one person can't bring a handgun into the capital then no person should be able to bring a handgun into the capital. Including lawmakers and off duty cops.
