Japanese Nambu LMGs of World War II

My father in law mentioned their light machine guns a time or two, held them in high regard. Along with the many Japanese snipers they encountered. Hated them but held them in ragard as to thier effectiveness. The Nambu pistol 94 was a piece of junk in his opinion.

Yep, i got one and the scope

Informative article on a subject not often addressed, WWII Japanese weapon systems. Have a Japanese rifle and bayonet my uncle liberated on Guadalcanal during his visit with the USMC. Same type of bayonet as depicted in the cover photo.

Dad was with the 3rd Marines. He told me that damn Jap Nambu killed more Marines than everything else they had.
He carried a BAR for 26 months and said that he wished the BAR had some features like barrel swapping the Nambu had.
He said the barrel on his BAR was shot out, but itnever failed.

Mine is converted to shoot 308. the barrel on it in the pic is a 308 barrel. i have the 7.7 barrel too. the mag in it is the original 7.7 mag. it uses modified bren mags not shown. it works like a champ. never a jam. 308 is a heckuva lot cheaper and plentiful than 7.7 jap.

Those Jap rifles, assuming they're in "cared for" condition, are actually excellent rifles.. used to see a few vet bring-backs in the deer woods in the '60's and early '70's. Generally accurate and hard-hitting even in the 6.5, one of the strongest actions out there. Wish now that I'da picked up one or two when I had the chance!

That's a real nice unit- very clean.. even with the conversion it's a real piece of history.
