While the model 19 is a great gun, this classic remake is nice, but it has the 2-piece barrel instead of the regular type, I’ll pass
That’s a Model 66.
Like this one?I got a satin one from the 80's..i think.
Yes - See my reply before I read yours.That’s a Model 66.
Basically the same thing as a 19, but stainless (66) vs blued/nickel (19).
Great minds buy alike.
I have the newer #66 with the 2-piece barrel, I just don’t like it, there first 2-piece barrel gun was the #620, junk, end of barrels were prone to crack and break, plus all the new revolvers have EDC rifling, not to traditional lands and grooves, they look more like a polygonal barrels nowI have a newer S&W revolver with the 2 piece barrel and it is extremely accurate.
While I have used and have several older S&W revolvers if you want a shooter get a new one.
Some purists buck when say this (and it’s not just me Bruan Eastridge and Darryl Bolke if American Fighting Revolver will say the same thing) but it’s 100% true and not emotional, the new S&W Wheelguns are stronger and made better than they ever were. But folks want to be emotional about those older models!
And as far as the Classic line not being 100% S&W doesn’t have a lot of the old frames and other parts. I sent in a 686-2 and they have no frames or many parts as it’s been discontinued for so long.
And finding a used one for a decent price good luck
I will agree that short lived 620 was up there with the Sigma. Not their best product line and why it was so short lived .I have the newer #66 with the 2-piece barrel, I just don’t like it, there first 2-piece barrel gun was the #620, junk, end of barrels were prone to crack and break, plus all the new revolvers have EDC rifling, not to traditional lands and grooves, they look more like a polygonal barrels now
That’s why when I wanted a .357, I bought the Rossi RM-66, flawlessThe biggest problem with the current S&W revolvers is that QC absolutely sucks. Far too many brand new guns are having to back to the factory for issues that should never have left the factory to begin with. Getting a good new revolver is a coin toss.![]()
They definitely were, no MIM, no lock, great triggers, better finishes and regular riflingI have an assortment of S&W revolvers from 1886 through the 1990's, including a pre-27 .357. Quality of the new ones just doesn't measure up to the older guns. The model 19's of the 70's are of the highest quality and I have staked my life on that.
