Chamber Safety Flags

And it's by no means just chamber flags. Think for a minute of all the ''safeties'' on the common gas can. For cryin' out loud, realize that every 'safety' built into a gas can today, is reflective of the fact someone (idiot, lowest denominator, etc) has tried to do the very thing the safety is designed to prevent. Or how about step ladders ... and we could go on and on!!!!

i have it on good authority, this is the new safety protective gear, one must buy when also buying a step ladder of ANY height....

don't buy the safety suit..??

they kick you out of the ladder store..

KF'77, I think you pretty much nailed it when you said this above in msg44: "Why do we bow down to the lowest demonitor for safety?" ... Unfortunately it's precisely because of those 'lowest denominators' that the rest of us must take into account for our own, and our friends and family's safety. If we who do abide by and adhere to safety issues did not live among those 'lowest denominators', no one would ever be hurt/shot, but unfortunately 'they do live among us'. I don't see it as "bowing down" to them even as I agree with your sentiment, I see it simply as the world we live in. (y)(y)
Think of it as defensive driving. The reality is that there are idiots out there. What I do when I’m by myself is a different story.

GOP has the same discussion going on another forum. I'm reposting what I said there.

The older I get the less I like controversy. On my range I don't use chamber flags
They're in my range bag but I don't use them.

Should I ever go to shoot on somebody else's range I'll abide by their rules. With the obvious caveat that unless I think their rules are absolutely unsafe in which case I will pack up and leave.

And if their rules include chamber flags I will use chamber flags.

My range, my rules. Your range, your rules

I worked as a Safety and Fire Protection Engineer for 46 years. The Industrial Hygienist who worked for me loved to point out all the labels/caution stickers on literally everything (Caution: coffee may be hot”🙄). Mike would always point out that some moron had actually “done” what the sticker warns against. (Example: Warning: Do Not use lawnmower as a hedge trimmer). It’s tough to make things idiot proof because someone always makes a better idiot. People ARE getting dumber by the decade. Don’t believe it? In the 50’s the owner’s manual on your new car was 50 pages, told about the vehicles features, how to operate it, and how to adjust the valves. Today’s, they’re hundreds of pages thick with 50 pages worth of warnings and cautions, including such gems as “Caution, do not drink battery acid”. Yup, dumber all the time. Instead of working on developing Artificial Intelligence the world would be a heap better off if we worked on REAL intelligence. Reminds me of that movie from years back “Idiocracy” where an idiot goes in a coma/suspened animation thing, wakes up decades in the future and is the smartest person there😳

Hi,

Just to get us back on topic...

I cleaned four filthy pistols today after my range session. Three of them had chamber flags. Guess I should pick up a few more just in case.

I've visited a couple ranges while traveling that required chamber flags. If you had none they would sell them right at the counter before letting you on the range. At 2 bucks each I guess it's a racket.

Thank you for your indulgence,

I have never been to any range in Texas either indoor or outdoor, that used or required chamber flags.

Bolt open, RO inspects, shooters go down range

I would tend to agree that most folks in Texas have a bit more common sense than most folks in some other places. I think Texans must raise their kids better. ;)
