What are you doing right now??

well earlier this afternoon, i had to take out a window, wrap it in plastic and put it back in the casing again.

that window and a few others are incredibly drafty, so best to start getting the few done now.

windows here for my house, being in a historic district, are starting priced at $15,000...each....and we have 3 ornate outside casings, that'll add to that pricing.

yes, that's right...due to this being a historic district, we cannot put in any ole window brand, or type......they must conform to the historical (or hysterical) people.

and we have like.......oh....45 which is for 1st, 2nd, 3rd floor, and the few ground level basement windows......soooo

i ain't about to get a mortgage for like about $675,000.00 to replace windows...to meet the historical (hysterical) numbnutz commission.

when about $40 gets me plastic, sponge insulation pieces, and a roll of scotch tape.

iirc
there was a law passed some years ago that got in the way of historic commissions on keeping the LOOK, but allowing new technology at a lower cost energy wise as well as the actual window cost
etc.
because folks were letting homes burn down vice fix them, etc
i think it was in Detroit that this old house found a place that made replicas that met the standard but were energy efficient etc and priced almost normal
or they were allowed to keep the old drafty stuff in front, but put real windows behind them in casement or something
its been awhile
but i remember cost was a BIGGIE as this family had bought the house in a left for dead detroit area .
anywho
common sense has to step in with historical commission stuff.. if the area is OVER TOP GO GREEN PLANET then the court case is the old drafty crap is killing the planet, sue em in the green :ROFLMAO:
 
oh and i forgot about the other part of lunch today
we had 4 Texas rangers in white shirts and crisp hats 2 tables over
every other word was maam and sir as they spoke to people and the wait staff.
they all had 1911s with the state crest on the grips, it was cool

havent seen 4 together in a long time
 
Just saw weather report for rest of week. We will be getting rain this weekend with temps in the 70's. I think it's great! We can use the water and maybe my grass will start waking up again. I need to replant some areas but will wait until the end of September when sun won't be too hot. At least I won't be bored doing yard work.

Yes I understand. Coming from Lexington Massachusetts everything there had to stay colonial period-- even the stores. My father got so sick and tired of it we moved a few towns over so we could have a "normal" house.

thing is, this district has only 1 place approved to build the windows to spec. and as such of course, they have a monopoly on this racket. i'd have to wonder if anyone or ALL on that hysterical commission get a "piece of the action"...wink-wink.

even if we cannot move to a warmer area, we'd like to at least move out of this city.

thing is, sure we can sell our house for xxxxx number of dollars, but the cost of another house would be XXXXXXX more, and then we gotta get another mortgage..?? at our ages..???

and we certainly do not want to buy other peoples problems, or a "fixer upper".....

yes, a move to the south for lower tax rate, or lower home costs would be better....

but too many variables/factors to do so for us.

the old saying.."we shoulda done that years ago".......applies here.

Have you been to the aviation museum at NAS Pensacola? It is worth the trip if you have time. Also there is an ordnance museum north of Eglin.

Update: Failed to mention that this is my first outing shooting steel for time from the draw.
Also first outing drawing from New Safariland ALS holster. "Smoke and Hope" My first string left much room for improvement 11+ seconds to shoot all 5 plates clean. Improvement came quite quickly, by the end of the hour I was "Clean" shooting string much better.Best clean string was 4.04. Looking faward to more practice and improvement. The draw is my weak point for sure.
