Video games….do you partake….

As most know here I have an Xbox Series X system and play various games. So far I have beat Gears of War4 and Doom The Dark Ages, currently playing Gears of War5, and trying WWE 2K25 Bloodline Edition. Does anyone else play games, on consoles, PC’s? Many moons ago I just played on PC’s, owned and ran several public servers, Quake II, Unreal Tournament 2K4 and COD 4 Modern Warfare, just got into the console thing recouping from my surgery. So, anyone else partake in this addictive habit…..
the only video games i play, are the MS Solitaire suite of games.

I play now and have been playing since the late 70s when Atari came out. Currently on PS5 pro, Xbox Series X, PC….and Switch 2. Oh, and PC/Steamdeck too. A lot of folks think that’s probably overkill, but passing on one nice custom gun paid for it all except the PC stuff. This is basically my number 1 retired hobby.

My favorite console games currently are open world and RPG, like Witcher 3, Outer Worlds, Fallout 4, and a few of the newer ones, as well as some FPS shooters (Doom, Halo, etc). Most recent obsession was Oblivion remastered and just recently picked up Borderlands 4 for the PS5, though I have 1, 2, and 3 on various platforms, most bought when on ridiculous sales. I don’t finish a lot of them because most of them are way too long 😂.

PC is mostly where I play strategy games, like Total War, Warhammer III. And I buy duplicates of console games so I can play on SteamDeck, usually during the Steam massive discount sales. I am certain I own more digital games on Steam than I’ll ever finish in my lifetime 😃.

As I tell the wife, I’d much rather play PC/video games and work on hand eye coordination, problem solving, and tons of brain memory work (RPGs especially) than veg out in front of TV binging on a show for hours and gaining nothing.

Even with all that, I make sure gaming never interferes with other life responsibilities or hobbies. I have every intention of staying busy throughout retirement, until I can’t!

Almost forgot - Grandson enjoys it too, when visiting (still too young to shoot).

This one’s pretty fun…

The real guitar and bass video game you're looking for is Rocksmith and its subscription service, Rocksmith+, which allow you to plug your own electric guitar or bass into a console or PC using a special USB cable to learn songs and improve your skills. Unlike traditional rhythm games, Rocksmith provides a genuine instrument learning experience with adaptive difficulty, interactive lessons, technique mini-games, and a vast song catalog.

How Rocksmith Works
  • Plug-in and Play:
    .

The core feature of Rocksmith is the ability to connect any electric guitar or bass to your gaming system using the included 1/4-inch to USB cable, turning your instrument into the game's controller.

  • Adaptive Learning:
    .

The game tracks your performance and automatically adjusts the difficulty by adding or removing notes, making the game intuitive for both beginners and experienced musicians.

  • Interactive Gameplay:
    .

The interface displays notes on a virtual fretboard, similar to other rhythm games, but these represent actual musical notes and require you to play the correct strings at the correct time.
Features and Benefits
  • Learn Real Songs:
Play along with a large catalog of popular songs from various genres, learning to play them as they were originally recorded by the artists.

  • Master Techniques:
Utilize the "Guitarcade" feature to play mini-games that help you practice and improve specific skills like scales, chords, bends, and harmonics.

  • Interactive Lessons:
Access lessons that cover fundamental techniques for holding a pick, fretting notes, and advanced techniques like tapping.

  • Practice Tools:
Use tools like Riff Repeater and Adaptive Difficulty to focus on challenging sections of songs and practice at your own pace.
Rocksmith vs. Rocksmith+
  • Rocksmith (older versions):
    .

The original games like Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014 are purchased as a one-time game and can be played on consoles or PC.

  • Rocksmith+:
    .

This is a subscription-based version that offers continuous tracking, learning, and access to an even larger song library, available on platforms like Xbox.

That is an excellent memory game. Way back in the early 80s when these arcade games were in the Rec Center at Luke AFB, I had enough patterns memorized, I’d get bored 😂. Of course it took more quarters than I care to remember to get that far. Also there were the original Asteroid, original Donkey Kong, original Missile Command, and original Tempest. Fun stuff!
