Can you dry fire too much?

I know I’m an old guy, but playing pretend with a firearm seems like a bad idea. Yes, I “have” taught people to master trigger control through dry firing, but I do not like the practice. I was always taught to NEVER point a firearm at anything you’re not willing to destroy. I still believe my old Dad’s guidance was sound, safe practice.

I was taught trigger control with the casing on the front sight method during live fire. After mastering that I see no benefit to dry firing. I do practice the draw often but never with my finger on the trigger and always in a safe direction.

My days at the range are long time passed and the snap caps are for magazine loading and unloading they are bright red so there is no mistake. Racking the pistol is without magazine in inserted which was something one of the agencies impressed on all officers.
