Buying a new car/truck?

2nd the F150 5.0 4x4 Super Cab, maybe a white one like mine. '22 Jeep Cherokee Trail Hawk, V6 has been great.
Not long ago I bought houses for what new cars/trucks are going for! No thanks, being retired many attitudes change. Besides, I might go to the auction and pick up a '18 Jag XK8 convertible (not sure I can get in and out of it, we'll see).
 
That is where I keep looping back...F150 5.0 4X4 Super Crew Cab. It has more room inside than many cars. It would be, under my tutelage, perhaps the most under stressed vehicle I have ever owned or indeed ever even heard of. I choke on the price, but I suppose this is where we are now. Like the $250 police trade in S&W 19 Revolvers of my youth, I guess the striped down, rubber floored, big engine equipped pickup truck with power steering/brakes and air as the only options are extinct. Actually, for me, probably lucky. If that was available, the cheapskate in me would force me to buy it. At least now I will be getting unheard of luxury for me in a truck. I remain convinced that politics will indeed ruin cars going forward, requiring small efficient cars like it or not. All my life I have had small nimble cars or motorcycles for my daily transportation. As I get older and more brittle, the idea of a large truck with airbags seems like the most survivable vehicle for a 60 plus driver. Gas bills will ALWAYS be cheaper than medical bills. Not that I have ever had a car accident, knock on wood. Still like to hear from V6 Honda owners or Ford F150 guys...I have had several F150's over the years, but my newest one was a 1992 Model. One of my best friends has a Super Crew Cab from the 90's that he has over 200,000 miles one. And he reckons 300,000 is reasonable...when I look at that, the cost is more reasonable assuming I am going to keep this for the next 15 years for sure and 20 quite possibly.
 
Or eight years and 6 months from now, when his BIG battery is dead and needs replacing! I shudder at the cost of that...an all electric Nissan battery was 21 grand! I personally wrote the check for $4000 plus for a Prius battery, and the hybrid batteries are a lot cheaper. I wonder if these "go green" Hippies have thought about that...when the world knows your battery is needing to be replaced in a year, what is the street value of the electric car going to be? You are going to have to pay the salvage yard to take it because of the dead yet still deadly battery!!!!
 
Will never own anything new. They are junk compared to the 70s GMC truck I drive.
My wife gets a new car every 10 years. Here 2019 Chevy is a piece of junk compared to anything old.
It has had problems that no one seems to be able to fix.
 
I dearly love the old stuff for toy cars, but I have to admit a modern car with fuel injection, cold a/c, disk brakes all around, rack and pinion steering, competent suspension and a stereo system that shades the Hi Fi I had in my home 20 years ago the siren song of newer cars is one that has drawn me in. I still love the simplicity of my old Corvette, but frankly I would not want to race my wife's cast off car a 2013 Honda Civic Si on a track. (as most of you gents know, "my wife's cast off car" is translated to "my current car")

My son is still driving my 1998 F350 diesel. I am still driving a 2013 F250 diesel out here on the farm. I favor these diesel pickups for their utility and durability, and survivability in a crash when some dumbass drives his little sporty job under my truck. Just the view from my saddle.

I had a ‘97 with the 7.3 Powerstroke. Best truck engine ever made.
 
This past July I went back to my tried-and-true truck, the Ram 2500. I've owned a series of Ram HD trucks over the years and just like how they drive. This one has the 6.4L / 392 cu.in. HEMI in it.

No messing around with Jeeps for me anymore.

I use the Ram to pull our RV, trips to the local lakes, and hauling firearms with ammo and gear to the outdoor ranges here. I don't have to worry about some pathetic V6 engine coming apart on me anymore.

I too am a Dodge truck guy. Have been for years. But I love them for the Cummins diesel (emissions deleted, of course). Here's my current one.
