New Old Guy In The House

SCraig

Alpha
Howdy everyone. New guy from Nashville here and just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.

I've been shooting forever it seems, at least 50 years, and while I've shot a lot of 1911 models I've never owned one myself. I recently rectified that oversight with a Springfield 1911 Ronin in .45ACP and am really enjoying it. I shot Beretta pistols for a number of years in USPSA and IDPA but they behave like different animals so I'm actually having fun "Retraining" myself on a new platform.

I also reload most of my ammo. I reloaded all of the .40 S&W I shot in USPSA and IDPA and load a lot of .223 for my AR-15 and a little bolt gun I play with. Nothing high-volume, just enough to keep me shooting.

I'm a retired engineering designer and got out of the working day life just in time for COVID to shut everything down in 2020. But that's OK, I volunteer as a Range Safety Officer at a state-owned range and since we don't get paid our one perk is that we have a code to the gate and can come shoot anytime we want at no charge.

So that's me in a nutshell. I'm going to go wander around this forum and see what there is to see and just enjoy myself. Thanks for having me and I look forward to meet new people and share information.

Welcome to the forum from west central Minnesota. I think that Tennessee is a beautiful state, spent some time there a couple of years ago. Pull up a chair and make yourself at home. Don't mind the curmudgeons, us cretins, but beware of the enablers 😉. Seriously though, there is lots of knowledge here, and we are from all over the country and all skill levels. Hope you hang out for a while 😎.

And welcome to the forum! I guess I'm not the NOG any more. ;) However, I've not been shooting regularly as long as you have so I'm still kind of an Old Noob.

I enjoy my Ronin 9mm and Garrison .45. I have a third 1911 on the way, Sig 1911-X Freedom. Yes, I'm enjoying my retirement too. Good to have you here.

Thank you for your indulgence,

I'm in the same boat. I started shooting at the age of 8 (I'm 74 now) under the tutelage of a friend of my parents. As I recall the first rifle I shot was a bolt action 22 and after that came a centerfire .303 Enfield that was about as long as I was tall. There have been a lot of periods when I found other interests more important but I always seem to find my way back to shooting sooner or later.l

Welcome from north central Illinois. Almost boring in these parts along I-80 unless you like the back roads. Don’t worry I bitch about some of the laws of this wonderful (communist) state of mine (Chicago needs to become a swamp again so my state governor can throw his toilet into it)
Illinois has some interesting places in it. I used to take weekend motorcycle trips to ... wherever! and a few of them wound up in or passing through IL so I've been there to see them. You can find ratholes any place you look if you just look in the right direction. The trick is to look the other direction 'cause the sun might be out there.

It is actually wonderful for road trips with the little towns and places to visit. Yes I have a decent job next town over and a place to call home. I know every state has there issues and all but it’s the people that make it work.

Good to know you. I've had big gaps in my shooting hobby too. I shot clay pigeons with friends using a .410 when I was 10, had a little training with M16 when I was in boot camp during the late 70s, and other stuff off and on. Then, life. Since retirement I've been making up for lost time. :)
