Meet Frank..

Frank is my Frankenstein Echelon. I originally bought a 4.0 Comp, and for some reason I just couldn’t shoot it as well as my other Echelons. I bought a regular barrel and tested the gun with complete satisfaction.
I added my modified grip frame for a full-size grip capacity, the Tyrant CNC single sided mag release and Apex Tactical stainless steel guide rod.

Hi,

Interesting! Comp slide but no comp barrel. Hmm. It looks great, glad it's shooting good for you now. I'm still getting familiar with my Echelon 4.5F Comp. I think it's the sights more than anything else. I don't care for the U-notch rear. But I really like the ambi mag release on all my SA units. On my carry guns it's always been quicker and easier to manipulate the mag release with my trigger finger rather than my thumb. I'm sure it's because my hands have the manly stumps of a bass player rather than the nimble fingers of a guitar princess.

I think, however, I would like to replace a few guide rods in some of my units. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Thanks for your response... I love the way the Echelon shoots, but for some reason, the 4.0 comp was off. I had a friend shoot it and agreed that it was shooting low. That's when I decided to try a regular barrel to see if that was the issue and it turned out it was. I didn't mind buying an extra barrel for it.
I don't care for the U notch rear sight either, so I blacked mine out. I love the green tritium front sight. I switched to a single sided release because I carry mine 16 hours a day and I was constantly ejecting the magazine when I leaned against the arm of my chair at work. The single sided release fixed that issue and it's been an issue with all of my Echelons. The stainless-steel guide rod is just for reliability. I used to own PDP's and broken polymer guide rods happened often. I will say that I've yet to see a polymer guide rod break in an Echelon. The Echelon guide rod is more heavy duty and will probably hold up better.
