I have to say, knowing full well it will keep me from being one of the cool kids, but I hate a pistol grip on a shotgun. I lose the fast handling that the shotgun is known for. A well used Winchester Model 12 is my bedside iron, but my downstairs home defense gun is an equally well used Remington 870 under the bar. The Winchester Model 12 is a solid rib skeet grade from the 1950's. It was my ex-father in laws High School graduation present. He wanted me to keep it even after my 1992 divorce. It is an extension of my arms. Cut down with a Poly Choke on it to make the collectors retch. I get into everyone's head on the sporting clays field spinning that choke around and proclaiming "Modified Full is required for this stage or Improved Skeet is the only way to break these birds" because my shooting buddies have expensive Under and Overs (as Holland and Holland calls over and unders) without the ungainly Poly Choke as an option. Near the end of the match I always dial it up to "Death Ray" for the winning birds. Great fun and a useful boost to my trash talk game. I have finally remarried, 13 years now, and my long suffering wife shoots weekly in a sporting clays league. No kids, so we fort in place if the alarm goes off. But if anyone tries to access our bedroom from the Fatal Funnel hallway, it will bring new meaning to the decision of "wrong house".
