Mossberg 590S #51602 without question. Designed from the ground up to cycle the 1.75" shells with no adapter needed. That's 13+1 capacity of #4 buckshot without reloading. Enter without being invited. You'll be exiting probably without knowing.

Yep, wish he'd come back too. has @SimonRL gone missing too? he ain't around hardly any.
Sorry about that. I have been busy as hell at work on a massive project which just concluded yesterday. I’m about to start three weeks off. Go back to work Jan 12. I promise to drive everyone crazy until then! I know this isn’t What have you bought gun related thread, but just ordered a Dead Air Wolfman as a dedicated suppressor for my AP5SD.

BTW, this was the project.

I jacked up some bad hombres and went into some dark dangerous unknown places with an 870 in my hands. I always felt I had the power to deal with whatever arose. It pays to train with the shotgun to build skills and confidence. It is not intuitive. A simple 870 will get the job done but I added a few accoutrements to this one based upon past experiences. I ran a defensive shotgun course for security officers for years and often got "I didn't know you could do that with a shotgun" from students. Current semi auto combat shotguns have a lot to offer but the old pumps will hold their own in trained hands.

There are no bayonets, therefore their opinions are completely invalid regarding defensive shotguns.

I have to say, knowing full well it will keep me from being one of the cool kids, but I hate a pistol grip on a shotgun. I lose the fast handling that the shotgun is known for. A well used Winchester Model 12 is my bedside iron, but my downstairs home defense gun is an equally well used Remington 870 under the bar. The Winchester Model 12 is a solid rib skeet grade from the 1950's. It was my ex-father in laws High School graduation present. He wanted me to keep it even after my 1992 divorce. It is an extension of my arms. Cut down with a Poly Choke on it to make the collectors retch. I get into everyone's head on the sporting clays field spinning that choke around and proclaiming "Modified Full is required for this stage or Improved Skeet is the only way to break these birds" because my shooting buddies have expensive Under and Overs (as Holland and Holland calls over and unders) without the ungainly Poly Choke as an option. Near the end of the match I always dial it up to "Death Ray" for the winning birds. Great fun and a useful boost to my trash talk game. I have finally remarried, 13 years now, and my long suffering wife shoots weekly in a sporting clays league. No kids, so we fort in place if the alarm goes off. But if anyone tries to access our bedroom from the Fatal Funnel hallway, it will bring new meaning to the decision of "wrong house".
