Someone - preferably law enforcement trained - explain this for all of us to understand…and take a moment to watch the video! All I can say is, wow!

From the article, “Shortly after a WSP vehicle approaches the scene, the man can be seen casually opening the driver’s side door of the cruiser. The trooper, a female lieutenant, appears to begin stepping out of the vehicle when the man suddenly grabs her, then toss her to the pavement like a sack of potatoes.”

Why in the *#&$ did she open her door and there are no other officers around!?

I’m am not trained as a police officer, but this just seems like the dumbest thing that one could do. She could have been killed.

Don't modern police vehicles use keyless ignitions/push to start? I'm always harping on my wife to keep the key fob on her person, and not in her purse when she is driving. That way, if she is ever car jacked or somebody tries to steal the car while she is fueling up, the car will shut down once it goes a certain distance from the key fob. Maybe they don't use that option on police vehicles. I'm not a cop, so I don't know.

Guess it depends on the state/city. Also even if the fob is on their person, if the engine is running, the car will keep running even as the fob falls out of range. The most it might do when the fob is out of range and the engine is running is auto lock.

Regarding the fobs, noticed there's a new-ish method of car theft now days where the thieves would work in teams where someone holds up an antenna by the front door, that acts as an extender to the person by the car, to piggy back the key fob signal so they could unlock the car. Which tends to work because a lot of people leave their keys near the front door when they come home.
 
so couple of observations - 1. the officer should've kept her door locked/shut 2. Do not approach larger felon/suspect alone. The average man is larger/stronger than the average woman although this woman was not a tiny gal, she was not large either. 3. Know force disparity and plan for it. Most of us guys are over 200lbs and some of us are strong/muscular. 4. Don't attempt a takedown without help. He wasn't going anywhere all by himself - let him wander in the rain until help arrives.

What model are your vehicles cuz that's not the case with all of them. I imagine as a safety mechanism they're not gonna have your car just stall out in the middle of the highway if for some reason the key fob battery dies.

Obviously his actions are irrational dishing in and out if traffic so approaching the vehicle she could have waited OR went hands in or tased his dumb ***
Wasn’t like she rolled up in a normal pedestrian. They were called because he was doing dumb stuff in an instrestate!

 
Yes fellas, I still cannot get over this … this encounter!

I simply cannot find any reason whatsoever for the trooper to have acted in this manner … it just blows my mind.

So the “guy” was in a dangerous place (middle of the highway) and could have been hit and killed by a driver … is this therefore a matter of on-coming traffic interdiction? Was the trooper trying to keep him from being hit? Just making contact?

Are there ways to interrupt traffic in situations like this that don’t endanger the officer?

He could have had a weapon and in an instant you have a dead trooper.

But why not use your vehicle to interfere with him?

Why get out? Good lord this seems like a tactical disaster to me, but I am not law enforcement.

DEI at work right there so crazy. Women cops gonna get someone killed. We had a graduate they were flossing here she's like 4.9 100 lbs soaking wet. I called em out for putting her on patrol. They just spewed some pc bull.

i school morning 1 of my kids went out to start the vehicle, we went to town (7 miles), dropped them off then i returned.........looked for the FOB and it wasn't to be found, texted and asked if they have it and the reply was yes..............so i can go at least 7 miles and it won't shut off.................so how far is the range before it will.................brand dependent i guess..........................good thing for having more than 1 vehicle!
